I'm an upcoming HS sophmore and i fell on my ankle and sprained it. I definitely dont feel comfortable running but i'd still like to keep in shape for an unofficial 5k my team is having in mid august. Do you guys suggest anything in specific for me too do?
Aqua jogging still flexes the ankle muscles you strained so why would you think it would solve your problem? Just take days off until it doesn't hurt, them take 1 more day off and get back into running again, slowly. You're not going to lose that much fitness unless you gain a bunch of weight
To a swimmer, aqua jogging is the equivalent of walking in lane 1. Don't do it anywhere near a lap lane or during a busy time. Aqua jogging is for 70 year old women who wear their glasses in the pool.
If you are going to go to the pool, it makes much more sense to just swim. You get the aerobic workout with the benefit of strengthening your entire body.
Work through the scar tissue from an ankle sprain.
Use bands to strengthen the muscles around it, youtube banded ankle exercises for sprains. If you don't have a band a towel will work.
For pool: calf raises. Use the water to take some of your weight off of the leg and work calf raises. If these feel good, go to jumps.
Also pool: Swim for fitness. Just swim for x minutes, similar to running to keep your aerobic fitness up.
