This is about the great Jim Ryun, not the comment about doping.
Before Pre, there was Jim Ryun. So many of us from that time were inspired by this guy, when we had to run on cinder tracks. We were first inspired by Ryun, then later inspired by Pre, Shorter, and Rodgers. But Ryun was the grand-daddy of them all and this is a very moving moment in the history of US track and field history.
Everyone needs to watch this video, skip the first part where everyone is just waiting around. It is a great video and you'll get to see Centro and Alan Webb at the end.
Ryun is a genuine good guy, too corny for today's times. It was so good that Centro and Webb were in attendance. I thought I saw Alan's head earlier but I thought, no that's just some old guy!
It would've been great if Keino had also been present as the two are forever linked by their great competitions.
One day, they'll put Jim Ryun on a US postage stamp.
Major kudos to our President for pulling this off. We need more feel-good moments in these trying times.
