The links displayed on the homepage are auto-generated, dolt. Why does it matter to you? Why did you go to the effort to post a cretin's question?
Typo: he rabbited Kip Keino to gold in 68. Just to cure the curious.
He was a legend. Part of the young turks that brought Kenya to the forefront of distance running.

LRC Note: Jipcho was the 1972 Olympic silver medallist in the steeplechase but many Americans may know him as the man who helped rabbit Jim Ryun to 1500 gold in 1968. He was Track and Field News athletes of the year in 1974 as well when he won Commonweatlh golds in the 5k and steeple plus a bronze in the 1500. He had lifetime pbs of 3:33, 13:14 and 8:13 steeple

Yes, I understand that. My point was, there were 2 new posts on this thread. All other posts were from 2months ago and it wasn't a very long thread. What caused 2 new posts to push this to the front page?
I would imagine there are many more threads that were getting more engagement.... My question has nothing to do with not wanting the Ben Jipcho thread to be on the homepage. I'm actually just curious how the auto-generation works because it seems odd when there are random threads like this on the homepage. Sorry I'm not brain dead like you and actually possess intellectual curiosity.
My main memories are his '73 - '74 season, I was a high school miler and a fan. Sure I learned of his pace-setting in Mexico later, but he was among the greatest in the world when I got into the sport.
With my high school teammates, I saw the ITA meet at Boston University in early June, 1975. Jipcho barely outkicke Dave Wottle in the mile, then added an 8:34 2-mile win. He was charismatic and a great competitor.
Looking around the stadium that night, I recognized most of the best high school distance runners in eastern Massachusetts enjoying the show from the stands.
Good man, great runner. One of the last clean Kenyans.
