Could this be her move for next year? I think she'd contend for gold. I have no doubt she'd beat Coburn, whose personal bests are nowhere close to Simpson's in the 1500 and 3000. I could see her running 8:55 and kicking for gold.

Coburn is 4 years younger. She's never gone for 1500 bests like Jenny has. I don't think it's as clear cut as you do. They honestly may both be past their PR days. I still think Coburn may have a PR in her, but I'm not sure Jenny does in anything less than 5000.
Jenny's days of being a medal contender in the 1500 (or any event, probably) are over. Honestly she may have a tough time making the team in any event, even the steeple. I always thought she would move up, as she has a lot of unrealized talent at 5000. We'll see.
Steeple would be her best bet at qualifying just because it's a weaker event and there are only 3 other women on her level in the US, but I don't think she would be the favored over Coburn or Frerichs. Frerichs just ran 14:48 and has the AR at 9:00. Coburn has been unbeatable in the US.

I don’t think her body would hold up. Injury was the reason she bagged it in the first place.
Pretty sure injury had nothing to do with it...she gave it up because she was the best runner in the 1500, too (which is a higher level of competition).
No she's a miler.
With houilihan, Karissa, Cranny, Huddle, etc, the 5k team is no walk in the park.
4 years younger means nothing, it's not 10, and who can beat jenny in an important race in the last 100m except shelby? please do tell, elle? hahaha jenny eats those for breakfast in championship races, I'm sure you never thought jenny could be a world champ either, emma being unbeatable just tells you how strong the steeple in the us is, collen, seriously??? and do you realize courtney is faster than coburn? good job, you are waaaay off, keep trying

Colleen Quigley beat Shelby to win USAs indoors.
Also to my knowledge Frerichs has only beaten Coburn once, and never at a USA or global championship.

She very publicly stated she was leaving the steeple because there were too many doped Russians and Spaniards in it.
Then she had a good run at the 1500, and now its been overwhelmed by drugs as well.
Since Dibaba smashed the already doped world record with her own doped performance, there have been a flood of times run that were previously only achieved by known dopers. What did 1500 training suddenly evolve in the last five years? The womens 1500 is probably the dirtiest on the track right now.
good job, indoors, when it counts, one win, yey
but frerichs is faster, no?

Yeah you clearly didn’t listen to how many races Shelby had run and why coming into that race.

in the steeple? on paper, i guess, but i don't think frerichs is fitter. coburn would've went sub-9 if not for her fall at pre last year. frerichs may well end up being better as she's younger but she hasn't overtaken emma yet.
in the shorter stuff? frerichs is not super fast. she's run 4:07 and 8:47. emma has run 4:04 and 8:41. quigley has run 4:03 and 8:28 this year--i think she may be due for a very good year.
my main point with respect to jenny is that he is well past her prime in the 1500-3000. the other women are still in their prime in the event. she would have a good shot at making either the 1500 team or the 3000sc team for Tokyo, but i don't think she'd just come in and beat Coburn, Quigley, and Frerichs at this stage in her career. love Jenny, she is one of the best American women ever, but she's in the latter stages of her career.
yes the steeple that's their event, so the answer is yes, thanks

just off PRs? alright man. coburn was clearly in sub-9 shape at pre. ignoring the context of a 9:04 with a fall is way too overly simplistic. she also has run 9:02 twice in world championships, which IMO is more impressive than running 2 seconds faster in a DL race. you may be one of the only people that would take frerichs in a steeple over coburn. coburn has won these in the last 6 years:
2019 world champs, usa champs, and pre classic
2018 usa champs, oslo dl, and brussels dl
2017 world champs, usa champs, pre classic, and doha
2016 olympics, usa champs
2015 usa champs
emma is 13-1 vs. frerichs in the steeple and has won their last 5 races very convincingly. not sure of the point you're trying to make
I'm a huge Jenny fan but look at some of the facts
she ran 3.59 in college when training for the steeplechase. She spent the next decade being a 1500m specialist and got down to 3.57.
I thought in 2008 after the final she had a good chance at gold in 2012 but she switched events. These predications that she is just going to take seconds a lap off her steeplechase time from a few months training seem wildly optimistic. She may actually be slower over 1500 if she started to train for the steeple than the last time she ran it as a steepler in college.
1500 is probably still her best chance, especially because she's very good at it tactically. Shelby and Elle Purrier may both be ahead of her at this point, but who else is? She's still a favorite for at least third. In the steeple, she may be able to beat Colleen for third, but I think it's less likely.

They don't run the mile in the Olympics
you still have not said who can beat jenny in a championship race, except shelby
