Probably Bekele, but Ngeny is up there IMO. Amos might have the best engine (matched only by his horrific form). El G if we suspend belief on his usage..
In the alternate reality from which I hail, where 4k is the standard championship and circuit race distance, Bekele and Komen are the only men to have broken 10:00. Make of that what you will.

Oh yeah NGENY!! what a beast. It's such a tragedy that his career was derailed by that car crash :(

If the 4k were the standard distance, I think you're right- nobody else is breaking 10
Either daniel or noah
Michael Norman.
Jim Walmsley.

Haile Gebrselassie would have a chance. Remember he ran 12:39, 2nd fastest all time and of course the WR at the time, And he ran 3:31 indoors.
Certainly El G and Bernard Lagat could both have come very close to running 10 flat for 4K, particularly if they were training for it in their primes.
Stephen Cherono would have been another contender to come close.
Cliff notes for this thread.
All the most talented runners of the last 150 years were born in 2 or 3 doping hotspots and at their peak within 5 years or so of the height of the EPO era.

THAT WASN'T WHAT I ASKED.
I asked about talent, not doping suspicions. FFS.
Who's your pick?!

Personally, I think the most talented runners of the last 150 years were all born in England a couple years apart and around their peak in the period where doping was legal with steroids and blood transfusions and there was no testing.

That would be the running race to end all running races, prime Geb vs pirme Kenny vs prime Komen...

He set 2 WRs at the distance, 10:09.78 in ‘94 and 10:04.22 the next year. Many followers of the sport expected that mark to hold up for a long time, but just 1 year later Komen dropped his ridiculous 9:59.31. Haile made some attempts at reclaiming the record but maxed out at 10:01.45 in ‘98, still #3 AT behind Komen and Bekele’s 9:58.79 WR.
I'd vote for Daniel Komen. His 7:20 has weathered all storms and his grace and ease running are to the point of insane nature at its finest.
Michael Norman is the most talented runner of all time. He is one of only 4 runners who is top 20 all time in at least 3 events and he is only 22.

Ehhhhh Van Niekerk is still better than him. I guess I was referring to distance runners too, but if we include sprinters too, yeah I suppose he is up there but not top 3 (Norman that is)
Because if you put Norman in the top 3 than Van Niekerk definitely has to be there too, and I think Bekele and Komen are more talented than both.
But it may be silly to have a list than includes both sprinters and distance runners....
Shameful you leave Haile Gebreselassie out of the discussion. From a 3:31 1500 to the worlds first sub 2:04 marathon (not in clown shoes either). He was the driving force behind the 5000 and 10000 WR drops. He has PRs just a couple of seconds behind Bekele, but they were his records multiple times.
He was also the first or second person below 59 minutes in a half marathon. When he went sub 2:04, we know he was already over the hill age wise, probably pushing 40 even then. Give him his youth and clown shoes and he would probably have went sub 2:01 10+ years ago.
