In the recent interview she said she was doing 60 mpw before she took some timeoff from running due to her knee. She admitted late last year she took time off from training during the summer of 2019 due to the knee as well.
Her coach really screwed up. Katelyn did not need to be running 60 miles a week. She increased her mileage yet started running SLOWER and had a lot more injuries. Her best year was as a sophomore when she was running less miles.
As a sophomore she ran:
2:09 in the 800 (still her PR)
4:14 in the 1500 (still her PR)
4:33 in the Mile (still her PR)
9:05 in the 3k SOLO indoors in lane 2 while lapping everyone in her race twice 2-4 times (2nd place was 10:38 and last was 11:29). Far more impressive than 9:01 w/ pros.
9:47 in the 3200 (still her PR)
15:37 5k indoors (still her PR)
Since you are so well informed, perhaps she can post how many mpw she was running by year, and provide the source of that info? She ramped up her training before her sophomore year - that is well documented. beyond that, not so documented that I know of. And, her best XC times were during her Junior year (yes right before the knee started hurting).
Did she run more miles than her body could handle? It would seem so. But that is how she took the leap as a sophomore.
This is from an interview with her coach before the 2017 XC season from her local newspaper.
"Runner to watch: Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy, who finished 13th at Nike Nationals last fall.
“As good as she’s been, what’s amazing is this summer her training has gone to a new level. As she gets older as a runner and stronger as a runner, we’re able to add more components. "
