What they do is a bit different. They essentially are doing 10 miles worth of CV intervals in mile to two mile reps for their strength workouts weekly.
Those that can hang get big long term payoff.

But only 2 in Diamond League or above races.
95% pacing shouldn't count either.
What do you call 95% of DL finishers getting towed to a fast time by pacers/the person who wins the race? It is literally no different than an intrasquad TT.

Threshold, not CV.
I think it would be better for the sport if there were more time trials like this. We already accept that there are meets where the goal is to run fast, and then championship racing where the goal is simply to win, there should be more events explicitly promoted as time trials.

Imagine how much faster they would have run if they were training with Tinman elite and doing proper CV workouts/Tinman tempos.

Could you send me the regulation that bans other teams from doing an occasional time trial?

Only 2?

If they did it in Monaco or Paris, would it be any less of a "contrived time trial"?
YES!!! It would.
Something's fishy about these clubs running fast ONLY at their private events. Why the hell would they want to do that? If I was their sponsor I'd be giving them an earful for peaking when nobody's watching. This is one step up from a workout, no viewers, no pressure, nothing gained. I just don't believe they're this motivated or in shape to go this fast in this type of event, over and over again, but never anywhere else in more important situations. What's going on?
You are right they should be doing this at the Olympics and diamond league meets right now! How dare they run fast in time trials and now at all the great meets happening around the world.
Oh wait, that’s right, there aren’t any.
Have you looked at their resumes? They’ve been unbelievably good in real competition as well. In fact, BTC athletes rarely seem to be bad when they compete. It’s really impressive.

Outside of lomong and Ahmed at the world champs last year, I do not remember any impressive international races that these men have participated in.
All three time trials have been impressive, but they haven’t consistently shown the ability to complete against international talent in real races (because they so rarely actually race).
That’s the next step. We’ll see if they take it.
I mean any way you look at it it doesnt feel the same as an in competition race where you have to cover moves and deal with people who drop off or slow the pace. It's no doubt impressive but these times should not be considered legitimate.

Schumacher has been doing it year after year without controversy. It's a very impressive record. I don't know about you, I'm getting really excited to get to the next Olympics or World Championships.
Jager has several world and Olympic medals. Hill was world indoor silver medalist. I won’t include Centrowitz as jerry wasn’t coaching him before last year. Ahmed won a world medal in the 5k
Frierichs has an AR and a world silver. Cragg has a world marathon medal. Infeld has a world medal in 10k. Houlihan has multiple AR and ran her american 1500 record at worlds.
Centrowitz, jager, hill, lomong, huling, Ahmed, cragg, Flanagan, frierichs, infeld, houlihan, Schweitzer have all made world and or Olympic finals.
That seems like a pretty good resume to me.

Agreed.
Depending on who runs what, BTC has a good chance of sweeping the 5000 spots on the women’s side. Men could send 2.
I’m afraid that your considering it to be illegitimate has no weight.
Why doesnt the sub 2 hour marathon count as a record? You lose
Because it doesn’t follow the regulations. Most notably, it cycles pacers in during the race.
Bowerman’s intrasquad meet, conversely, follows all track rules.
I’m surprised you picked something so far from being analogous to try to argue your point.

You mean the sponsors that require them to "race" a set amount of times per year for their contracts? They're the reason Bowerman is doing these squad races.

I agree that the women have been competitive and should be even more competitive in the future. They’ve proven themselves internationally over and over again.
My comments were in regards to the men. From 2016-2019, this group was essentially silent. Ahmed and Lomong changed that at world champs.
For the rest of these 12:58-13:15 guys, I’m not convinced they’ll achieve much internationally until they actually attempt to. Now, obviously they get a pass for the past 6 months, but their lack of standards going into the 2019 us champs speaks for itself.
