ACC and Patriot League both will delay Fall Sports until at least September 1st. The dominoes are falling.

Franklin field has seating over 60k. Perhaps your familiar with something called the Penn Relays.
Are you dense? Penn Relays attendance figures are for the whole weekend.
Franklin field is bigger than you think.

Yeah Runner10287 is a cynical, crabby old man who has nothing better to do.
This'll give the rest of the NCAA a chance to compete with BYU's overaged athletes even with all of them getting an extra year of eligibility, because they'll be more mature and closer to their lifetime peak. It won't hurt many athletes to get an extra year of base training. But I'm sorry that xc takes the fall, as it were, because it is surely the safest of all sports with regard to covid. They are always outside, almost always well-spaced, and even at the starting line, they are in team groups, rather than mixed with everyone. Even that can be improved just by having some wider starts with longer distances to the narrowing of the course (by which time, the field is spread out more). I'd bet that there'd be very, very little COVID-19 spread from races like that, or even the normal races.
I'm not sure that it's necessarily all that harmless for kids. My colleague's family all has it right now and the kids are having trouble breathing. They're all in decent shape.
By the way, increases in deaths have already taken place. They got down to a minimum of 254 only recently but the total was back near 1,000 each of the last two days. That figure is likely to double or more as these large sets of positives work their way through the disease over the next six weeks.
ACC and Patriot league both spread into dense areas with high case counts... you might be right, but it will be because the government pushes it, not a choice on the schools part.

Oh i’m aware it’s government pushed. Something rotten is going on.
NESCAC (DIII) will be officially cancelling their fall sports today. Stay tuned...

I could feel the sarcasm when I read that
Dartmouth just announced it is reducing its number of varsity athletic teams from 35 to 30. It is getting rid of:
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving
Men's and Women's Golf (they are closing down their golf course which is a pretty large expense)
Men's Lightweight Rowing
Seems like they had this plan ready to go in the event the league decided to postpone fall sports.

This is pathetic.
Remember in March when it was going to be a three week lock - down to flatten the curve?
They will keep this nonsense rolling for another year and a half is my guess.
This is exactly why this is still going on. People think it's "nonsense" and not a big deal instead of dealing with it in a constructive way.
Big Ten just announced that they will be going conference-only this fall for football.

So as soon as one conference says "conference only" competition for other sports including XC, we have a huge issue with at-large bids. And I expect that to happen in the next few days.
You answered your own question indirectly., that is, follow the money.
High school shut down? Teachers sit on their asses for a couple of years at full pay.
MLB not shut down? Owners and players get paid.
Big whoop.
You do realize this means that a lot of Universities, which get lots of revenue from out of conference games, are now going to be deep in the red this season? Meaning that tightening the budget is even more important.
I swear some of y'all have never gotten past a middle school education.
