There is a kid in Great Britain who MIGHT get the Record as well, Max Burgin, I heard he is much better than Sebastian Coe was at the same age, and is expected to break Coe's 1:41.73 for 800 and Farah's 3:28.81 Great Britain National Records, Max Burgin ran 1:45.36 in a low key race with no competition, he is 16 or 17 years old now, he has not got to run this year (Like Most People).
Yes, I agree that Burgin has the talent. He's a long way off still though. But he has the talent and the steady progression, and seems very level headed and mature for his age too.
I read yesterday that British Athletics are going to stage an 800m time trial in lanes next month, so I wonder if Max will be invited to that?
It might turn out to be a good thing for him to have a year away from the pressure and big expectations.
As for Donovan Brazier, people are getting excited, but nearly 1 and 1/2 seconds is still a lot to improve at 23.
Coe and Brazier both ran almost the exact same time at 22 years of age. As we know, Coe 'only' improved another 6/10ths of a second, although if he hadn't been hit by ill health and had more paced high quality 800m races then he likely would have gone faster, although I think myself and Deano are in a minority here in believing he could have run faster than 1:40.9.
