Seems like an idiotic question.
But on the other thread I made on this subject, I saw that basically no one has difficulty to hit target paces in the afternoon, after running easy in the morning.
While I find it pretty much impossible to hit my threshold pace if I've already run that day, even if it was 4 miles easy (imagine, 4 miles easy, that should be nothing.
What could the reason be? I still don't have enought endurance, I'm not used to run on tired legs (despite running high mileage and doubling everyday)
It puzzles me.
I personally do workouts in the morning and easy in the afternoon as I to have a harder time in the afternoon with regards to harder efforts. The only exception to this is repeats 400m or less on the track.
Couple things;
Your morning easy pace might not be easy enough.
Your morning runs might be too long (30 - 45 minutes for a double session easy run is the norm, at 6 miles this puts you at 7:30 miles for 45 minutes).
You're trying to increase intensity and volume at the same time; focus on one, then bring the other up. If increasing volume, lower the intensity until your body gets used to the volume.
