In grad school I saw research that said basket hangs were the most intense abs exercise.
In general I'd guess hanging exercises would be most intense simply because they involve moving the most body mass directly against gravity.

The leg tuck in the new Army Combat Fitness Test has proven to be so difficult that a plank can be used as a substitute exercise.
Russian twists are great because it deals with the rotation of the torso that happens when running. And also the mountain climbers and all those leg raises, because they're training the core in a running specific way.
1) ab wheel
2) 3 minute plank challenge - can be done after waking up and before going to bed.
45s plank
15s right arm up
15s left arm up
15s right leg up
15s left leg up
15s right arm, left leg up
15s left arm, right leg up
45s plank
no rest in between, just lifting everything a few cm/inches off the ground for maximum effectiveness.
3) pallof press
I was taught that the body responds better to different stimuli than to a single repeated exercise. So I prefer an 8 minute ab routines with different exercises every 45secs.
