The Cloudboom. Notable I think that it's described as having a 'carbon infused speed board' and not a true carbon fiber plate.

Check out that weight: 15.5 ounces! Holy crap.
That can't be right...that must be both shoes.
So 7.75 oz

Ah, good catch, that makes sense.
That is quite different than the Nike versions. It is pretty minimal in contrast to the 40+mm stack height of the Nike variants. Also, it uses the old standard EVA for midsole material while Nike uses the much newer Pebax which is supposed to be better. It'll be interesting to see how Jake Reilly does in them.

Good grief man, how are you this bad at reading?

In the Let’s Run report on his signing with On, he mentioned that it’s not there yet but “they’re on the right track” and that the next iteration he feels should be competitive with the Vaporfly. Interesting that it’s a 9mm stack height, On typically does lower drop shoes.
I like the Cloudflows, be interested to see how this one develops.
Can I, as a carbon-based life form, claim to be a carbon plate racing shoe?
I think Jake Riley raced in these this morning.
I thought it would at least look cool...but yikes

Best I could tell from a brief look at the video feed he was in the Cloudflash
First reactions:
- is Pebax foam so rare they couldn't scrounge up enough for the dozens of these shoes they will sell?
- why carbon-fiber infused speedboard? Just use carbon fiber. We have the technology!
- the upper looks interesting and understated, depending on the audience maybe they at least got that part right
Looks like speedboard is a trademarked term, so it’s probably pretty similar to a regular carbon plate, just with a “twist”.
I feel like ON kinda screwed themselves over with the lug things on the soles. I wore a pair maybe two years ago and run the full life of them, but they didn’t feel any special. Super firm and no traction on grass, especially when wet. Not to mention they’re heavier than most shoes and pretty expensive. Their cheapest shoe is $130, not bad I suppose, but the rest are around $150-$180. Some even $200.
You can justify buying more expensive shoes if the really feel good for you. I wear the saucony freedom 3’s which cost $150, but they’re easily the best trainer I’ve ever worn. I suppose someone might say the same thing about ON shoes, but if you’re looking for a firm shoe, there are plenty of other, cheaper, better options.
Seems like the cloud technology is just kind of a gimmick that shoe stores can use to sell to new runners who think it’s better than regular foam tech.
Asics was doing something “different” with their gel tech, which was actually somewhat popular, but now they’re releasing shoes like the novablast and meta racer that a lot of people seem to like.

Because CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) sounds just as good but is way cheaper to manufacturer as it can be injection molded versus requiring hand layup and several other processing steps like ‘real’ carbon fiber. Of course, it is also not as strong/springy/light as real carbon fiber as a result but most people couldn’t tell the difference anyway.

Yeah it will be short chopped fibre carbon fibre in a thermoplastic like nylon. Much cheaper to produce
ON is a status brand. The same people that would do anything to be at the cool kids table love them. If you like to accesorize with a yoga mat under your armpit, or join the wine of the month club, these are the shoes for you.

ON shoes are an absolute waste of money. They may look cool for casual wear, but they’re not for running. Only a fool would waste $200 on that crap.
Serious runner's see through the BS. It tends to be folks that could care less about functionality of a good running shoe, but love the cute factor.
The types that are drawn to ON, have Botox injections, or they're on their 3rd wife and trying dearly to keep up before she turns her sights on the orange theory instructor. You can pay $100 for a Launch or Kinvara, why pay $140 for the Cloudflow? Meh, cloudtec.

"Carbon infused speed board" = standard LX9012 nylon with a % of carbon fiber shavings - probably 30% in this case to make it stiff enough. Nice inexpensive workaround.
