I thought Canova was Italian, not Russian
Have you seen non running Ethiopian men around? Huge guts. They eat so much and make the women do everything. I don’t blame them about the eating though.. the food is really good.
This needs proof. Show me a picture of Fat Bekele.
So what? He is the GOAT, so he deserves some buffet, cake and beers.

He also must have a slow metabolism, because I know a lot of skinny runners who could eat whatever they want and gain max 1kg in 2 weeks, even without running
Many good runners have poor metabolisms. Especially once you get into your 20s and 30s. For a lot of runners overall calorie restriction is more important than extra mileage in improving performance.

Yeah I agree.
I recall greatly lowering my mileage over the Christmas holidays one year. I drank like a bottle of white wine per day, and ate a ton of sweets.
The result was I lost 2 lbs.
You can't out run a bad diet, 20mpw or 140mpw you gotta keep the fat low.

8kg is a pretty unbelievable amount to gain in 2 weeks. Normally you need things like rehydration/carb loading to where you add a ton of water weight to get gains like that. You would need to be eating like an extra 3500 calories/day to gain that much fat. That is a crap load of food.

You live in a glass house man.
Some Americans are the size of small cows or small houses......something you can never see in either Ethiopia or Kenya.
If they tripped and fell in an indoor swimming pool, they'd trigger a tsunami.
Having a big tummy is one thing but being the size of a Guensey or Friesian cow is another.

Yeah, I find the story hard to believe. That is a lot of weight and especially for a 5'5" person. I've heard of boxers putting on a ton of weight between fights, but never a runner between seasons.
is that Sondre Moen complaining about being tired
Renato always giving it straight. Great video.
Iten is just the most beautiful place.
Love how he says Bekele is the greatest talent ever, says if he had discipline of Kipchoge WR would be under 2hr 25:50 10K and 12:30-32 5K.
Crazy.

Renato probably exaggerated a bit, but I am actually also like that.
My case is very similar to Bekele's :
I struggle all the season to lower my weight, and weight is actually by far the biggest factor of success for me, if I can get to race weight (close to 60kg) then I know I will perform well, if I can't, no matter how much and how hard I trained, I will not perform. At 70kg, I can run very fast intervals in workout, even better than in race shape, but I just can't sustain the pace in races, unless I'm close to race weight. I run a fairly high amount of mileage, and increasing it doesn't actually result in automatic weight loss, so I have to starve myself a lot during the 3 months before a big race, and once it's done, I can get back to 70kg in one month.
I think that's the result of starving yourself during the season (hence adjusting your metabolism to a smaller intake of calories) but also a mental reason ; it's so hard for us to lose weight in order to perform well, so when we reach the goal, we kind of "take a revenge" on all the food we couldn't eat during the season. This fast and brutal increase in food intake will induce a fast and brutal weight gain.
That's not the healthiest way to do it, but I just can't see myself eating extremely healthy all year long so I'm always close to 60kg and ready to go.
I am sure KB and you gain weight. I just doubt you are gaining 1lb/day. That is an absurd amount of over eating and I sort of doubt your body can gain weight (i.e. real weight. Now adding in 10lbs of water as you rehydrate and eat some carbs). Tell me you gain 17 lbs over 2 months between seasons, I will not blink an eye. I could easy see a guy like KB go from like 120mpw of marathon training to like a 70mpw recovery phase for 3 months and packing on weight.
And to some extent people shouldn't be walking around at race weight. Carry that extra 5-10lbs around is healthy and just lose the weight when it matters. You don't exactly have to starve yourself to lose 5lbs over a month.
