About $500
About $16k but I really had not earned it...
Parents gave me 50% of my college fund when I chose a school the was free (academics and athletics).
I can't imagine too many people have anything at that age, that was not gifted to them. I commend anyone who worked and saved any sizable amount in HS.
Negative $5000 for Freshman year college loans. Lol.
I bit over $4000, most of which I made working at a grocery store my senior year of hs. I regret working and missing out on so many senior year experiences. Minimum wage was 5.25 an hour then and despite being an a student and having been accepted to some top colleges, was paid 5.50 an hour.
Anyways, part of that money was used to pay for my senior trip in high school, which was a cool experience. The rest was used for textbooks, food, and spending money my freshman year of college. I quickly realized how little that amount of money was. I was broke by the start of second semester. I might as well have just not worked and taken more student loans.
I had about $500 in my bank account at age 18, and maybe $30 in my wallet. At age 22 after college graduation I had about $2,000 in the bank and over $20k in debt. Everything I made during college went to paying towards school to limit the amount of debt I took on. Now at 27 I have Zero debt (still renting so no mortage), and $100k in stocks/bank... Pick a useful major, kids. And go to an affordable school that still offers that major.
Whatever was in my pocket on any given day, plus the change I could scrounge from seat cushions and in the car. I well remember driving around on E much of the time and scrounging loose change to put a gallon or two in the tank to get me where I was going.
I had nothing, which in hindsight was a great gift.
Came for a poor broken death, divorce alcohol and abuse ridden family . I didn't even have a roof over my head starting about a week after high school finished , still 17. I spent the summer outdoors for the first 6 weeks and then sleeping in out of the way spaces in a factory I got a job at. I had between 27 cents and $1500.
Somewhere between $2-4k in my checking account by the start of freshman year of college. I had been working part-time for four summers up to that point. I didn't have to pay for school myself.
