I competed on cinder tracks in middle school, over twenty years ago. Since then I have done plenty of training and even time trialing on them but I have not competed on them. Since the inception of virtual racing I have been using my local middle school track for my training, which is cinder focused, and my virtual races. Knowing that my times are in competition with other runners initially provided me with the motivation to put down better times than I have for years on that track. I didn't anticipate this happening because my times are obviously slower than they would be on modern tracks but chasing this different colored rabbit has breathed new life and motivation into my running. After two virtual races and with one coming up, I'm having quite an enjoyable time.
