Shelby Houlihan: I want to break 3:50 for 1500 and 14 flat for 5000

Does she realize that 14 flat would indicate sub 4 MILE potential?

I'd like to break myself off the bed before 2pm someday and it's just as realsitic

If she makes it, it would be a sad day for the sport.

It would probably indicate PEDs usage (just as when Dibaba broke the wr)

I know G Dibaba didnt test positive, I meant that such a dominant performance was seen by many people (still more likely with what we know now) as (probably) a PEDformance. And when this kind of records are broken, I just feel sad for the sport

She's ~90% to never break her 1500 PR of 3:54.99 again imo

It's really a pity that 2020 is going to be such a failure in sports because of the virus. It would have been quite interesting to see Hassan post-Salazar in the Olympics. But I also doubt that any of the top 6 in the Doha 1500m W final will improve on these times. (The exceptions being Muir who actually missed her 3:55 PB by a little in that race and Hassan if she could run a well-paced race in similar shape, but again as with Dibaba post-2015 this shape might never appear again.)

However, I think there is more space for improvement in the 5k and 10k. Sub 14 seems not likely but Gidey and Koko could challenge the current records. Gidey ran already an unreal 15k record on the roads and Koko is much faster than her in the 800/1500m but nevertheless an Ayana-like long distance type. If one can run 70 sec laps solo with hardly breaking a sweat at 22yo why not 68 sec. laps after a few more years of training in competetive race with pacers. Or 25 70 sec. laps.

Anyone else notice that women runners tend toward the gorgeous? 'Seems to me they are far more attractive as a group than anyone else (models, swimmers, tax attorneys, etc.). This is especially apparent when they wear regular clothes/hair/makeup, such as Houlihan here. Too bad we male runners are such a bunch of uggos in comparison.

No, you don't need 4:00 speed to break 14:00. The minimum is closer to 4:08, which is equivalent to the 1500 WR.

I don't think this is the craziest mentality. She's not declaring she's gunning for those times every time she goes out and races, it's just something she can keep shooting for. She admits it might not/probably isn't be possible

Only way she does either of these is if she has some damn good dope. Being that she’s already with bowerman it’s hard to see her getting any better stuff. Jager is that ripped for a reason.

Letesenbet Gidey's 44:20 15 K is more impressive than any distance woman track record and worth sub 14 and sub 29 for 5000 m and 10,000 m so I would not rule her out

There is not a single runner alive who has not explicitly tested positive that is more likely to have doped than Dibaba.

Her coach was quite literally caught with a bunch of EPO and PED-filled syringes, in the same hotel as her. Not even NOP, El Guerrouj, Komen, and the entire cohort who ran during the EPO era have this kind of overt incrimination about them.

He should have never dumped Kosinski.

According to the linked article, yes. And it also mentions they have “late night video-game marathons”.

I think only capable of this is Sigan or Koko. And they will need some help to do it
