I am all for wearing masks indoors in public spaces, around my elders and even in crowded outdoor environments (where I live, we don't have a lot of those). That being said, a mask is of little value on ones chin. Masks are effective, and it is not just a political thing when someone doesn't wear one. There are plenty of Democrats not wearing masks either (and the case / hospitalization / death statistics reinforce this). Masks make sense for all political parties.
In most countries wearing a mask is not a political issue, for some reason Trump, conservatives and many of the GOP have made it political issue to the detriment of our citizens.
If this is all Trump's fault, and Democrats do a better job of social distancing, wearing masks, etc., then explain to me how the death rate per million in states that voted for Trump is 36% of what it is for states that voted for Hilary [216 deaths per million residents in Red States (including PA, MI, WI, etc. that are traditionally blue, but voted for Trump in 2016) versus 595 dpm in states that voted for Hillary]. Case rates are similar (5,671 CPM in red vs. 9,818 CPM in blue). Even recent growth still favors the red states (with blue states increasing their deaths per million by 95 new DPM versus 51 new DPM in red states over the past month (which takes into account declines in states like NY, NJ, etc.). Nobody is talking about California and their liberal governor and how they are leading the nation in new deaths (and have about double the number of deaths per capita of TX that the MSM is crucifying).
One of the things that nobody is talking about is the effect of weather. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, etc. had their peak when the weather was terrible and everyone was spending most of their time indoors. In TX, FL, AZ and southern CA (even Mexico), they all spend more time indoors this time of year due to heat (and commercial HVAC systems and things like busses and trains go from drawing in large amounts of Outside Air to limiting the amount of Outside Air and increasing the percentage of recirculated air conditioned air). One of the main drivers is being indoors.
