There are high school girls in 9th grade who run faster that that!
Over the line if we're being real.

According to MileSplit, 16 high school girls ran better than 53.44 during the 2019 outdoor season - one was a freshman.
We should also remember that Matt's effort was from seven years ago.
Hey Matty. You do realize it is IMPOSSIBLE to hand time to the hundredth of a second, right? Rules are to round up to the nearest tenth and add a quarter of a second. So your time is ACTUALLY 54.8. Not a good time, bro.
53.44 rounds to 53.74
Just about every cornerback and receiver in the NFL could wake up and run a 53 second 400. They are all bigger than 6'0 and 214 pounds. Heck, I ran 53 for the open 400 as a freshman distance runner. Of course, I was a once in a generation talent.
But what can you run right now?
Bolt was over 200 and ran 45.
Its not like you are dragging your weight around a marathon.
Joey Woody ran 46 .04 at 220 pounds.

Some coach you are. Hand time can NEVER be to the hundreth. NEVER.
53.8. That's what the rulebook says.
He was not set on the start so DQ but no better than 54 if set.

Clearly a false start, too.
Can Nick Bare do this right now at 194 lbs?
Is there anyone in crossfit that can do this in practice right now?

Right.
It's a little easier to do this when you're myostatin deficient like they are. Or have varying degrees of the myostatin deficiency disorder which grows muscle at exponential rates without really even trying.
Myostatin is a thing that puts a cap on natural muscle growth. When you're deficient in it you grow sort of like a doubled muscle cow. You have a higher upper limit to muscle growth.
For the sake of the conversation let's compare me to non-myostatin deficient athletes only right now.
I already know there are about a million myostatin deficient athletes that could probably do this. I know that.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1698719/Ran the 48.33 at Mt. Sac Relays a couple years ago. Have a few videos of my training and previous races. It's OK for my bodyweight - when I ran the 48.33 at 220 and 6'0 I got beaten pretty good by some college guys though.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for sharing. This is a good start. I would say once you get under 50 that would be a solid time for your weight.
At 220 I ran 48.33 FAT in a race. When I was 210 I was mid 47. I'm 6' as well so we are the same height.
That's a really good time for that bodyweight. Good job.
Any videos of this to verify what you're saying is real? Where did you run your 48.33 FAT at?

I don't know how you do it in your state, but where i come from, we round to the next tenth and then add .24.
53.44 goes to 53.50. add automatic .24 to get get 53.74.

NFHS Conversion: The National Federation of High Schools has a similar conversion to the one above. To apply this conversion factor, a hand time is rounded up to the nearest tenth (e.g., 10.83 seconds becomes 10.9 seconds, and 11.77 seconds becomes 11.8 seconds). After the time is rounded up, the conversion factor is added. For NFHS, all races, regardless of length, have a conversion factor of 0.24 of a second added to the rounded hand time.
