Oh.
Black face and using the N word was all good in the 90s, was it?
Was he in blackface? Yes he was. Why would you even ask?
And he dropped the N bomb several times.
Why are you defending this racist supremacist?

Let's be fair here. This was aired on Comedy Central. We've also recently seen outrage of Jimmy Fallon's blackface aired on NBC. If it was so obvious 20 years ago that this was racist these things would not have been let on the air.
I buy that neither man was trying to be racist because when you're a sheltered white person you don't understand the minority perspective. I dressed up as a Native American for Halloween. War paint, headress. I wasn't trying to be racist to anyone, I was just trying to look authentic . That naivety comes from a place of white privilege. Now that I'm older, more mature, and also have the opportunity to read more black and brown voices I understand that's really not a thing I should have been doing. All you can do in that situation is apologize and try to be better.
So for halloween, I once dressed up as Jimi Hendrix (my favorite guitarist). I wore gaudy 60's clothes, even had a strat guitar. Yes, I also wore a "natural" wig and put brown make up on my face. I plugged into an amp and played purple haze. Everyone thought it was awesome. Was that racist?
I mean it was not derogatory at all. It was meant to be a complement to a musician that I respected.
Racists love the Halloween excuse. Anything goes on Halloween, according to racists. It's their get out racist jail free card.
Were you alive 20 years ago? Blackface and a white guy using the N word were not acceptable -- except maybe for those ignorant racist elites who own the media.
I recall watching trying to act black in that movie with Richard Pryor -- Stir Crazy -- back in 1980 and cringing of how ignorant it was.
The arrogance and ignorance of the elites who own the media does not excuse their behavior
Anyone who does not know the history of blackface....
Yes. The whole "we didn't know" and "it was different then" excuses are a joke too. Racists try to excuse any behavior by now claiming ignorance of what they were doing. "I was too dumb to know I'm a racist, now that I'm caught." Give us a break.
Yes, I was alive 20 years ago. I was very much a white sheltered guy. I would have had the same thought process as the guy a few posts up who dressed as Jimi Hendrix. How I dressed would have come from a place of ignorance. Believe me or don't believe me, but there is no law against blackface, it's a cultural norm, and I was not surrounded by people who would have exposed me to the point of view that it's racist. Is this really that hard for you to believe? Despite your memories with the Richard Pryor movie you can't imagine another experience?
As I said - both Kimmel and Fallon were aired by major networks, so you have to admit the zeitgeist on this was obviously different. You never responded to that part of what I said.

Obvious troll is obvious.
A thoughtful person understands that people can mature and change. If any of this racism has been directed at you in your life, I would hope you would welcome people apologizing for past misdeeds so that we can start to build a better future. Why complain about people who own up to their past mistakes when there are still so many people who pretend racism doesn't exist or isn't a problem? That's where your ire needs to be directed.
But you're a troll so carry on.

The major networks are owned and run by ignorant racist supremacists.
No, it was not okay to put on blackface and drop the N bomb in the 1990s.
Maybe...maybe, in the 1950s as nearly all of white America was ignorant and/or racist
He WILL get a pass. He is part of their Klan.

I can't speak to your comment about them being white supremacists. Ignorant - yes, that's what I'm saying they were 20 years ago. If nothing else, know that they are in business to make money, and I can't see how being racist would help them to do that. Based on my own ignorance at the time it just seems more likely to me they didn't realize. And they didn't realize because we weren't having these cultural conversations as widely. Thank you internet. I'm glad you knew early.
Agreed on the N bomb. I was a child in the 80's and even in a mostly white suburb I knew that was bad. I don't remember exactly how or where I learned that.

What is his "apology" makes you think he is a thoughtful person

Sorry I gotta get back to work. But I was commenting to the person calling people who wore race-offensive costumes racist.
Yes, they're racist if they continue to defend it today. But someone who says - you're right, that was bad, I understand that now - that's an ally. They've matured and changed.

People are glad you've accepted your own apology.
Some of you people are as bad as newly sober A.A. members. Preaching away at others who did the same as you the day before.

Racist supremacists, not white supremacists.
The group that owns most of the media look white, we consider them white, but they do not consider themselves white

Read his "apology". Did he say "you're right, I was bade"? No way.
Maybe they are not supremacists but rather separatists. Separatists don't feel their own race is superior --- but rather they just don't want to live with the race in question.
