I see Futterman reads LRC ...
“Following those guidelines while holding a major race is simply impossible, leaving the endurance sports business economically devastated this year.”
New York City is a place where the residents joke about the size of the rats. No surprise that infectious disease is so widespread there. Avoid NYC. It's a cauldron of filth.
"Caldron of Filth" I love it.

We will strive mightily to get along somehow without your presence.
I think we will succeed.
But the marathon's circumstances are very different from those of a cross-country meet.
I hope the Powers That Be in cross country will not take the easy route and just ape the NYCM.
Berlin just flipped from postponed to cancelled, as well (inevitable, but worth noting). Anybody want to start a pool on when Chicago gets the axe?
Just waiting for London and Chicago to cancel now that Berlin, NYC, and Boston have all cancelled. At the rate we are going, Americans might be banned anyways from visiting Europe with our out of control coronavirus pandemic. I have a spot in the Age Group World Championships in London Marathon but would strongly prefer to race it next April after vaccines are out.
This is insane! - cancelling thee NY Marathon!
It's okay to have tens of thousands of people protesting whenever they feel like it and it's no big deal. But it seems open season to pick on these marathons and other sporting events. Lol.
And if the race directors are so scared about getting sued have runners sign a waiver (I think you sign a liability waiver in most races anyway).
This nation has gone completely mad with this coronavirus! I think these race directors have lost it as well.

Ya, its insane. This is a symptom of a poorly educated population. Here in California, restaurants are packed to the brim with diners, well packed with a few tables being cordoned off. Reports keep coming in that outbreaks are traced back to restaurants. More people dine out every day than attend any event. Yet its the dangerous sporting events and road races that need to stay shut down. Never mind that coronavirus is spiking in this state, we shut down the road races and events so we're beating it. Without a vaccine, this goes on for years.
Why?
How do they know what the virus situation will be four plus months from now?
Still holding my breath for Philly. 20,000 less runners, a population of almost 7 million less people and 3 weeks later. Fingers crossed
Dude that's the dumbest thing you have ever said about the pandemic. People are jam packed together at the start of big city marathons and there is no way to stay 6 feet away from anyone. NYC in particular thousands are corralled together for hours before the start of the race not to mention the 1 million spectators that line the streets in tight groups. How do you look at restaurants now and come to that conclusion when it so obviously points to the fact that restaurants should not be open?

The liability waiver only covers personal suits that could potentially come about with an infection. It would not help public perception of the NYRR, the race’s sponsors, and the city if someone were to get sick.
Protests should be viewed differently because they are taking a risk to create a long overdue change in our country’s identity.
Don’t try and act like you running a foot race is some kind of act of bravery.
With most of the Abbott World Major marathons canceled, does that mean Kipchoge doesn't get to defend his title? Does the winner of Tokyo automatically win the Abbott award along with prize money?
Checked the NYRR site and looks like the 5th Avenue Mile isn't cancelled yet.

Me too. But at this point I don't know if the 3 weeks later is a good or bad thing.

I firmly believe they are being pushed into cancelling these races by people who are of a higher ranking. Do not be surprised whenever colleges switch to remote and sports are cancelled.
