Hi so i started running in january 2019. I'm a 22 yo guy. Since then i have improved but not by much. My fastest mile is 5:30 but i only did that with 5k specific training. Fastest 400 is 1:15 equal to my 800 and 1200 paces. When i did those in workouts i tried to maintain the pace and i was successful but subsequently when one would think i should be able to run a single 400 at a faster pace i just can't. Even though i can run the exact same pace for an extra 2 laps. My fastest 5k is 18 minutes and my half marathon and marathon race paces are clustered together. Half marathon PR is 1:18 and marathon PR is 2:42. This is not a troll post. I have not been able to run a mile in under 5 minutes but i can sustain paces that are 30 seconds above my fastest mile for a very long time. What could be the case here?
I see other people training for half marathons that can't crack 1:12 but they can crank out a 5:10 final mile after a 5:50-6 minute paced 10k threshold workout. Many people have huge and even variation between their paces. What the hell. Should i just give it time? I'm genuinely baffled. Again this is not s troll post. Is it because of aerobic underdevelopment or something? Weekly mileage is currently at my highest which is around 60-65 mpw and i got here 2 months ago.
