So based on david45's reddit history, this is what he thinks.
He thinks that high school/college sports aren't a thing outside the U.S., so if there are no Asians in the U.S. College XC/track scene, then it must be that Asians suck at distance running. That's why he's held on to his incorrect thought of "no Asians win medals in track/running in the Olympics hurr durr", which he's made a number of reddit threads on, and ignoring everybody who tells him that he is factually incorrect.
No, it definitely can't be that the college/university distance running scene in Japan is big enough that aspiring athletes don't need the NCAA for exposure.
High school/college sports is pretty much an unique thing to the US if you actually know anything about other countries.

How old are you?
Yes, as a Japanese Canadian I know that high school sports and University sports are big in both Canada and Japan, thank you very much.
Canada, yes, NCAA sports bring in more profit and viewership than CIS, but your debate point is that hs/college sports is unique to the U.S., it's not.
But since we're talking about Asians here...
As for Japan. Do you know what the "Koushien" tournament is in Japan, and how many spectators attend the event and what its viewership is? I'll give you an answer. It's the all-Japan high school baseball tournament, and it brings in an equivalent, it not higher viewership than events such as March Madness, and the finals viewership ranks at the level of the BCS National Championship Game. If you want to debate "huur duur Japan's population is greater than the U.S.", that 's why I brought up viewership.
If you want to debate running, the Hakone Ekiden that other users have brought up, one of the biggest university events in the country, brings in a higher viewership than the Koushien tournament. Probably way more than NCAA XC or track championships.
Read what people tell you, stop reading selectively to fit your argument.

You're a basement dwelling, loves-joking-that-you're-a-pedophile, person with serious issues that have nothing to do with running.
I am just a lonely 18 year old with no one to talk to. People bullied me in high school because of false gay rumors. It wasn't my fault everyone hates me.

Here is the TV ratings of Hakone Ekiden from 1987 to 2020.
edition; date and year; start time; duration in minutes ; rating ; winning team.
27.5 / 28.6 for the most recent edition.
https://www.videor.co.jp/tvrating/past_tvrating/marathon/02/index.htmlInitially, I wondered what it takes to run XC and/or Track in one of US colleges (requirements in terms of times etc.). Went down the rabbit hole and found that not all colleges are keen on international students. From this thread, the participation of asians (by race) on these kinds of sports are apparently also very low. Yes, I am asian and am not from US.
Now I am more curious about the process of training. What about the training in US? Is the training more superior in cultivating their athletes to become much stronger and faster? Kieran performs better as compared to his other competitors in the SEA games. Should this be credited to training methods in the US alongside his running talent?
