I'm 36 y/o male, avidly did long-course triathlon for 10 years (1/2 Ironman and Ironman distance) but finally got sick of spending half my life riding a bike trainer (and the other half obsessing about gear), so last year I decided to become a pure runner. Biking was always my best sport, but running was always my favorite. My best Ironman run is a 3:22 off of a sub-5 bike (on a flat course), and I did a 3:06 regular marathon two years ago (on the tail end of my triathlon season), so I think a sub-3 marathon is probably within reach for me.
Anyways, since I was accustomed to training 12-15 hours a week of swim-bike-run for months at a time, I figured jumping right into an 18-week Pfitzinger 55-70 mpw plan would be a piece of cake. Everything went great for about 10 weeks and then POP, shin splints sidelined me for almost 3 months.
Now I am all recovered and finally back to running a measly 25 mpw. I have 40 weeks until my next marathon in March 2021. So....what to do? My current idea is to do spend a lot of time building up my run base with a Pfitz 10 week up to 45mpw base plan, into another 10 week Pfitz up to 60mpw base plan, then into the 18-week Pfitz 55-70mpw marathon plan.
So what would you do if you were me? Any and all suggestions welcome.
