In Apollo 13 there is a tight closeup shot of Tom Hanks. As the camera pulls back it exposes his limited domain of the command module as it passes through the window and into space. Tom's face disappears from the window as his life supporting environment, the command capsule exterior, gains focus. Yet the camera continues to draw back and the spacecraft fades with Earth becoming the main object in the frame. As the screen pulls back even further, Earth and it's moon fades to black among the stars. My takeaway has always been that man is only relevant in his own small world inside this vast universe of many.
Powerful directing by Ron Howard and fabulous animation by the crew that put that sequence together.
The last few minutes of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood are pretty amazing...Terentino making a lot of noise on this list.
The Lard Ass scene in Stand By Me is pretty great.
chariot race scene in ben hur tops them all.
made with actual human beings as well as horses, well before computer generated graphics was even a thought much less a reality.

First thought that came to mind was this. Then someone immediately followed up with the ending scene. Agreed, again. I would also include the pharmacy scene after his gun fight with Llewellyn. Shows just how smart, chaotic, cunning, and yet so casual and matter of fact about destruction he is.
