I'm not denying COVID has killed people. Even some that would not have died otherwise. But you also have to understand that there can be an excess death toll one month maybe from people who would have died within the next few months but ended perishing a little quicker from COVID. This undoubtedly did happen in nursing homes. There likely will be a dip in nursing home deaths over the next 6 months as many deaths than would have occurred over a period of months were compacted into a shorter time. I think we really have to look at the excess death over the course of the next year to understand the true impact.
There is also the negative public health toll the liberals want to ignore due to the Covid shutdowns. This was totally preventable. People have put off medical care and screenings they absolutely should have had them. This will result in negative health consequences. There are a huge amount of people who may lose their housing or face food shortages due to loss of income. Rising unemployment had huge public health impacts and it will last for a long time after so many businesses have closed and will continue to close. Not to mention the mass of public employees about to lose their jobs because local and state governments have lost billions in revenue. There has been a well-documented increase in drinking and drug abuse. People who have been hurt by the economic impacts face enormous stress which has negative impacts. We have stunted our education system with the school's shutdown.
The media and white-collar workers have this tunnel vision obsession with positive tests and this indoctrination about the hypothetical second wave. Meanwhile, there is real social and human health damage being done that is 100% due to our response to the virus and not the virus itself. People hate to admit they are wrong or look past their own personal fears but the negative impacts of the shutdowns have been enormous and the virus really has not hit harder in the states that had a lower level of response.
