I've been running consistently for almost a year now, averaging 30-40mpw, normally 4 days per week with 2 easy runs, 1 tempo, 1 long run of 6-8 miles. I've always played sports throughout school...
The problem is that since I took running I always felt a stabbing pain on my lower ribs on the right side, and it starts around 15-20 minutes on the run and it doesn't matter if I'm going all out or if I'm running on a very easy pace of something like 10:00min/mi. Basically all the runs that I've done in this year of running I had this problem in each one of them.
Last week I just pushed through the long run and when I was around 50 minutes in, I just started to feel a dull pain on the inside part of the sternum (right side too), so I just stopped altogether.
I've tried going slower, staying hydrated, keeping a good posture, breathing deeply... but nothing really helps.
Would this be reason enough to believe in a muscular problem and seek medical help? I don't know if it can be that my aerobic system is that bad since I've done 3 months of slow running to get a good base, but still didn't solve the problem.
