Completely justified shooting by police.
Yup, just saw this. Police chief has already resigned, protests already started, Atlant's mayor condemning the police dept, etc.
However, from the details I read, the dude was sleeping in his car sitting right in the middle of a drive-through. Naturally the cops were called, and he was found to be intoxicated.
At some point after failing the sobriety test and realizing he's going to jail for DUI, he struggles when being put into the police car, grabs the officers taser, and takes off on foot. The officer chases him, and from what I have heard, surveillance video shows that the suspect stops, turns, and points the taser at the officer, at which point he opens fire.
If these details prove to be untrue, then yeah we have ampolice brutality issue on our hands. But if they are accurate, then what was the officer supposed to do? Get tasered and incapacitated? Let the suspect run off with his weapon?
Like I'm all for police body cams, and a revision of their restraint tactics, but part of me feels like we're not even giving them a chance to do their jobs.
This morning a NYT article had quotes from various people saying "this has not been the first time a black person has been shot while sleeping." But how disingenuous is that? Were they really shot for enjoying a peaceful nights sleep? Or did they get shot as a result of committing multiple crimes, the last one being point a taser at a police officer.
I wonder if the police chief resigned because she knew her departure was going to be inevitable anyways after the police department has already been found guilty by the court of public opinion.
Nothing he did justifies being killed
stop making excuses for these criminals.
You want to avoid confrontations with the police, stop committing crimes.
If you can't stop committing crimes for some reason? stop resisting arrest once you commit the crime. Didn't this last guy learn anything from the previous guy two weeks ago?
stop with the excuses.

Yeah maybe. If the choice is between letting a guy go whose crime is trying to avoid being arrested for DUI and employing deadly force, maybe you don’t employ the f*cking deadly force!! It’s not a proportional response to any of the crimes.
this guy was so drunk he couldn't even keep his eyes open yet the police somehow manage to let him grab a taser and run away. they then decide that the most reasonable course of action is to gun him down as he flees.
that's some mighty fine police work right there. i feel safer already.
What an inflammatory title to this thread..."execution".. really?
Talk about a poor choice of words.
The correct term is "Officer involved shooting"

You’ve got a point there. We’ve all seen about 100 incidents of excessive force the last two weeks. This guy should have known they would kill him. Maybe that’s even why he ran away ?♂️
I think people forget that cops are enforcers of the law not ones who define the punishment of the law.
The story said that the guy had the taser and turned toward the officer what do you suggest the officer do, get tased and let the guy then take his gun, if you did nothing wrong then don't run, don't give me the crap that they would have killed the guy even if he did not run. So maybe we just let everyone do what they want so their feelings don't get hurt, let's see how that works

Cop should be fired for being so bad at his job that a “sleeping, drunken fool” stole his weapon.

Sleeping in a drive through is not a capital offense.
Resisting arrest is not a capital offense.
Stealing a police officer's taser is not a capital offense.
Letting the suspect go would've saved a person's life.
They had all of his information, they would arrest him at a later time.

Here is what I think:
There are people who never fought the police yet, they were shot.
We've seen a lot of videos of people who never fought back yet they were shot.
Erick Garner and George Floyd come to mind.
The young boy called Tameer Rice as well.
So, this man Rayshard Brooks perhaps felt that he was better of fighting because either way, people get killed. He did.
He somehow escaped being shot during the scuffle but after he ran and fired a taser gun at them, they still shot.
Black people it seems are in a quandary as to what to do in certain circumstances.
It is sad.

Stealing a police officer's taser and pointing it at him. Yeah that's going to get you killed and like most of these cases we will probably find he had a long history of violent crime.
So the remedy to everything is death?
The police have to kill someone running away with their taser gun?
Wow!
I’m responding to the Idiot post of the day.
I support this justified shooting.

Yes, they shot the guy in the back as he was running away...a drunk guy at that, real heroes you American police.
America, especially you Trumpists, it is in your hands to choose the course of leadership, and stop yourselves becoming not only a laughing stock but also being disliked by the rest of the world.

Being drunk and blocking Wendy's drive through does not make you a criminal.

Thank you!
To some people, no matter what the situation is, they will always defend the murdererss within the police force.
when you hear people saying 'defund the police' or 'divert funds allocated to police departments' or whatever jargon they are using, this here (Atlanta murder) is the reason.
That was murder.
The man wasn't shooting people in a church like Daylon Roof (who was arrested).
The man wasn't shooting kids in a school like Cruz or whatever his name is at Stoneman Douglass.
He was sleeping!
Roof and Cruz ( I believe) who murdered innocent people are alive.
The man who was sleeping is dead.
