Hi all!
I've just decided to create a thread to share my come back try (which is more of start actually), my goals and training.
I started running when I was 13. 1st year I did 2'46 in the 1000m with 1-2 trainings a week (second training being race on sundays like twice a month). Main training was basically all out 15' warm up (so funny when i think about it now!) then plyometrics+sprints or specific workouts. Also did that year 10'07 3000m alone by 90°. And 17'30 5K.
Two years after when 16, i did 1'59 and 4'10 1500. With little training : 2/3 times a week. Then injured all winter, then 3/4 from spring to june with added ""long run"" of 45' min.
Then I stopped because of time consuming studies.
In 2014 i decided that I wanted to run a Marathon in less than 3 hours with 6 month training. So I started running again having done almost 0 sport for 6years.
I did 38'50 10km after 3weeks of easy runs and there was 5months left before the Marathon.
Increasing mileage was really hard since I had no past experience of decent mileage and I was building from 0.
I manage to reach 50m/w after several month and I did one 60m/w.
Training was basically easy runs, 1 long run, 1 hill sprint a week. I hardly remember track workouts. I did maybe 3 of them and a moderate run time to time (no LT workout).
1 month before the marathon I did 34'10 at 10km which I was happy with.
But as you can guess, the lengh of the marathon killed me with such low mileage. While the pace felt easy (well under my potential), I struggled from km36 and had to walk at km40 when 3h pacer left me behind.
3h01! close though.
After this, I stopped again for 6years. The pain during the marathon (and the training that felt hard despite slow runs) kind of discouraged me to go on.
And here I am, starting again to run in 2020. I started 3months ago during quarantine like every COVID-hobby jogger aha.
This time, the motivation and the expectations are high.
I'm 29 now and have not time to loose if i want to make good PRs on shorter distances.
I'm starting with building a base (easy miles, long run, sprints and threshold work this time), running 5-6 times/ week at the moment (40miles) and I want to run a decent 10km as a conclusion of this base when there will be races again (September?)
Then I want to focus on where i'm the best : 800-1500. Hopping it is not too late for such a come back.
What do you think I can do in 10k this automn, 800/1500 next summer? and final PR after lets say 2-3years of hard training. (plan to go to 12 trainings a week in 3years if everything goes well the 1st year). I think it's my best chance for middle distance as speed goes down after 30yo.
Any general advice?
PS : sorry if my english is not perfect, it is not my native language.
