Kipchoge would destroy KJ in moutains with some specific training.
White people win mountain races only because africans are not interested in them.
Just look at Cheptegei doing tempo run up hill and you will understand KJ has no chance.

Silly racist. Africans have been running mountain races for decades. Cannot compete with whites. Lol. Kipchoge would be broken in two and carted off by rescue helicopter halfway through Zegama.
I remember when Jack Maitland won the Mount Cameroon (that's in Africa) race, they accused him of using black magic.

Idiot, i'm a white man.
Top africans don't do moutain races because there is not enough money to win for a leaving. That is a fact. You think Bekele, Tadese, Cheptegei cannot run up and downhill? They destroy everybody at XC championships in the hill, train in the hilly mountains. Run sub 1h half marathon and have more muscles than KJ.
1year training would be enough for them to destroy anybody in those races
You fanboy, face the reality.
Trails and moutain races are still a kind of race where internationnal level is really poor like on road 100km. Are japenese best utra runners in the world? no they are the only one that consider 100km as a major race. Level is low. If africans move to moutain races and 100km, they will win eveything.
Matt Carpenter beats Kilian up pikes peak even more than your 6-7 minute logic and actually has marathon times from sea level to Tibet. I think he would have to be 10 times the GOAT with your thinking. By the way I'm only 2.5 seconds off Usain Bolt's WR, I'm just saying.
TITLE IS WRONG, it should read: "Kilian runs back to back 10.5Ks in 32'"...as apparently he first ran 10.49Km as per strava, so had to set off again after a few minutes to run the whole 10.50Km. So he basically tempoed 21K in ~64 mins. 2x10000 is MONSTER SESH! It looks like he might run a MONSTER time in the marathon.
He said that was his HM pace.
So 1h04 HM.
Which means, with very good endurance, 2h12-2h15 marathon.
Which is not really impressive.

So funny. The reason they're trying to keep mountain running low money is because money attracts dopers. Everyone knows this. Keep your doped dopers on the roads.
And no, your "XC" racing is basically a road without asphalt. With the same dopers. Those dopers would be able to finish most mountain running courses.

Don't be dense. Money is low because there is no money to be made. Big races make money on volume, and by its nature, trail running cannot have a field of 20,000 runners.
And people will dope just to be the best at something, no money even needs to be available. Plenty of cases of masters level racers (running, cycling, triathlon) that dope just to win age groups.
Doping is everywhere and I wouldn't be surprised if KJ was doping as well although he is possibly clean since he is way slower than top runners

LOL. Only on Letsrun.

Oh please. Stop the nonsense. There is a ton of money that could be made but at least the top guys do get sponsorship by companies like Salomon.
From the horses mouth:
"Some people have argued that prize money in running is the driving factor causing athletes to dope. According to UTMB race director Michele Poletti, “We are not in favour of the professionalisation of the sport with money, as this would increase the risk of doping. We believe strongly in amateur sport because we believe that this is the way to keep the sport’s values.”
https://trailrunner.com/trail-news/clean-sport-and-mountain-ultra-trail-mut-running-part-1/You gotta put that into perspective. Of course a 2:15 Marathon is impressive (for us hobby joggers), but if Jornet is the ultimate Mountain Ultra Runner or whatever that is called and he is supposedly capable of a 2:12 - 2:15 Marathon, it makes you wonder, what a top runner (2:05 or better) could do on the Ultra Mountain or whatever distance could achieve.
I believe he would be better than Jornet, but we will probably never know, cause the money is in the Marathon. And one final thing, who is running 26plus miles anyway? That is stupid and for people with no purpose in life.
Of course, you will find this opinion only here on Letsrun and I love it!

Impressive time for a hobby jogger. For an East African that time is considered slow.
Hey Sage,
What are the odds Salomon has forbid Kilian from rematching Francois at 100 miles? First he bails on Hardrock 2019, then does this whole road thing instead of joining the (now cancelled) UTMB 2020 lineup. Either that or maybe Maurteen is giving him a boat load of money to get on the roads?
I guess it'll be cool to see what he can do but this whole thing is starting to get a little lame. Fans want to see mountain runners race in the mountains.
Whats your thoughts there? Is he running from Francois or is he just genuinely interested in seeing what he can do on the roads?

We are talking about a claim that KJ is the Goat runner.
So 2h12-2h15 is rather ridiculous for a "Goat".
For a professional athlete it is definitely not impressive.
Actually, KJ would struggle to be a pro if he was a marathon runner.

MJ was the GOAT basketball player, and was pretty average baseball player.
Marathoning and MUT are different sports.
Kilian can absolutely be the MUT GOAT and an average marathoner. Killian makes his money because he is good at running up mountains and on steep technical trails, marathoners don't have to do that.

Does UTMB have any prize money at all? If so, then it will attract dopers. And like I said, anything prestigious will attract dopers regardless, just for the recognition of "winning it" or doing well.
I think UTMB race director has a vision of what he thinks trail running should be, and runs his race accordingly, as he has every right to do. But does that

1st The analogy between Basketball/baseball and marathon/mountain races is poor.
Last two are way more similar than first two even though it requires differents abilities it is long distance running in both case.
2nd, the claim is that KJ is "the running Goat", (which only a fanboy can believe) not the "mountain races goat".
