Great run from NY, the McMillian calculator was almost spot on on his 5k ability based on his 3k.

I think that Franklyn Sanchez was actually listed as 17 at graduation.
After graduating, he went to Cushing Academy for one year before matriculating at Georgetown, which is probably why you thought he was older.
He’s not nearly as good as the “Eurotrash meatball boy” at his age! Simply not even close. Even Derrick went 13:55 didn’t he? Then 13:28 then Fernandez did 13:25, Ritz & Rupp before faster as well. etc... he needs to work on that upper body, he’s way too thin In my opinion .
Actually more straightforward to use real data than a calculator that somebody created. The calculator would have all 24 guys who ran faster than him in the 3000 in the NCAA running 13:39 or better but you know that did not happen. 13:40 puts him ahead of guys like Mau and on the heels of Klecker. I estimate that those 2 guys would beat him by more than 100 meters but you predict that he would beat Mau.
7:56 converts to 13:49-50. Perfectly accurate

He seems like a nice humble kid much like Rupp. But his coach has made false claims about himself which has diverted attention from Young to him. I think some people want the coach's predictions to fail, not the kid to fail. There will be more fans next year when he is at NAU. Only positive things have ever been said about the coach.
Exactly. I totally agree with you
So for Nico, can't he run another attempt ? That's sad that a lot of kids gave up track training so early just to be ready for cross country. I feel like track season helped me take my cross country to the next level, I just felt so relaxed at cross country pace after all the speed work (just like cross country helps fast twitch runners to take their track game to the next level). It would be epic if he could do a Jakob Ingebrigtsen and run a lot of races over a lot of distances before starting XC training, just so he can regain motivation and he can measure his improvement next year at NAU. I understand that they are not a lot of races right now in America but at least he could do some timetrials with his teammates or idk. Kinda sad for him because I'm sure he had the potential to go sub 4 sub 7:50 and even get close to Rupp's 5k record. But at least he tried, not like all theses kids who have up track in March/April to take a break and prepare for xc, that's a big mistake, I already did it in my life, they likely will not be that good in xc, a big base won't do the whole thing if you're a long distance type.

Klecker is in way better shape now than he was when he ran his 5000 PR.
He ran his PR this year. He is signing a Pro contract any day now. So maybe Young will sign also.
At this point, another attempt seems like a stretch. The conditions weren’t great, but I don’t think they were >13 seconds great. And that is totally OK. Nico doesn’t need to set high school records to preform well in college. I dunno if he’s taking time off after this race, but if he’s training for 1 or 2 weeks more, then starting back up, it’ll be August before he does any real workouts. With Nau being in the position they’re in, there’s a good chance they don’t redshirt him and building up a good amount of mileage before he heads to high elevation would be very beneficial I think. GL to nico in the future
hard to say. there was no crowd or any competition to invigorate him and i'd say the weather was probably worth at least 5 seconds: if he'd run only 66s for that last mile, his name would be #2 on the record books. i think it's not worth another attempt though, his name will be remembered forever on the high school books anyway and it's going to be really tough to get it with this experience of dying to 68s + the same conditions: summer only getting hotter, maybe a bit better pacing but still no competition.

This is extremely quick for those weather conditions and pacers for only 1 1/2 miles.
Ritz and Rupp needed two chances, in good conditions, to get to their times. It's a shame his team didn't wait until the next night, or at least go in the coolest time in the day. If not, he's proven he's among the best high schoolers of all time. Still, he should absolutely make another record attempt at this distance, or make a sub-4 attempt before packing it up for fall xc, which may or may not happen.
I agree with this.
They should have known about the temperatures in advance and made adjustments in their plans.
This was not a well thought out record attempt.
Did this effort count or was it really just a time trial? I have a feeling if it was real that we woukd have seen a bunch of hype leading up to it.

Nope. He ran 13:30 in 2018. Probably in in the 13:teens now. He ran 13:34 this year but would have peaked in the spring/early summer.
Did he run unattached because it is not in TFRRS?

a damn good perfomance. Little help and 79 degs in Portland at the moment.
A cooler temperature would get rid of that 13 extra seconds.
The temperature is perfectly fine
I honestly long run think it was good for him that he did not break that 5k record. Will make him hungry. Bottom line it’s time for probably a short break then build up the mileage for 8 to 10 weeks. I doubt he races until the big meet in mid October if it happens. 2 or 3 cross races then NCAA cross everything I imagine until mid September will be base mileage
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
