but to be clear: unless you've run 13:50 or anywhere close, you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how hard this is, and how amazing this is UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. yes, it matters whether or not you have a structured season to set goals and inform your training. yes, it matters whether or not you have the proper competitive environment (pressure, pacing, weather, coaching, etc.). sub-14 for a h.s. kid is nothing short of amazing--i think it's arguably equal to sub-4 for the mile . congrats nico, and congrats to his coaches and teammates who have all been part of his accomplishments.
