The sad fact is that all these so called good cops do very little to weed out the bad ones. That’s the problem. In Buffalo yesterday 2 cops shoved a 70 year old man to the ground and he hit his head so hard he was bleeding out of his ears. The report that was published claimed the man slipped and even though 20 something other cops witnessed the assault none of them wrote their own report.
Today every cop in the swat unit resigned in support of the 2 officers who were suspended.
That is why people hate and don’t trust cops. The assault on the man was bad enough but they attempted to cover it up and not one “good cop” did anything about it. Then they all “quit” in solidarity with the two very obvious “ bad apples” but the reality is they only quit a voluntary unit and they will continue to get paychecks.

Let's dissect. 75 years old, not 70? So what? Was or was not a swat unit? So what? The cops assaulted an innocent man who was no threat to them and hurt him bad. Lied about it in their reports. Imagine if other professions bearing great responsibility killed as many people as law enforcement does in the United States? You would not be asserting that surgeons and airplane pilots “had a few bad apples”. Even if you not accept the fact that there is something fundamentally wrong with the criminal justice system in the USA, especially as it intersects with 500+ years of institutional racism, you have to be willfully blind to ignore the fact that policing attracts a disproportionate number of bad hombres. For a certain temperament, joining the police presents an easy way to do violence with relative impunity, just as becoming a Catholic priest presents the opportunity to bugger adolescents with relative impunity. Wake up.
It’s fine to lump all police together because they chose that profession. Discriminating against someone because of their genetics is wholly different.
I never had any aspirations of being a police officer during my life. It’s probably because I was a very high-achieving student with a loving family, so I picked up that law enforcement was a job for the C students or the kids with behavior problems / broken homes.
If someone wants to be a “good cop” and go against the norm, maybe they should just pick a different job if they don’t want to be included in the “all cops are evil” narrative.
This is no accident.
This is a culture.
The police look and act like an occupying army, not cops.

The Buffalo incident is a good example. 2 cops shoved the old man to the ground, 50 other cops saw it and didn't check on the bleeding old man. They should be all be prosecuted.
We need a new system. The word police should not be part of it.

Surgeons arent being attacked or shot at so obviously dont have the same challenges and surgeons "mistakes" do cause more avoidable deaths per year than law enforcement. So not sure what your getting at. Pilots have an easy job, computer's do most of the work, and they too arent being shot at. But yet pilot screw ups still cause death (see Kobe).

By a very wide margin, the violence that happens in policing is instigated by or exasperated by the police, because of “their few bad apples”, because of their atrocious training, and because they given greater weaponry than is appropriate. There is a reason this problem is vastly worse in the USA than so many other wealthy, developed nations. Cherry picking a few random incidents of police death, compared with the death and injury meted out by the police is a rather weak argument. Police are 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black person than a black person is to be killed by police.
Be thankful the cops aren’t as dangerous as surgeons.
The surgeon analogy doesn’t hold up. Even if 1000x more people died in the performance of a physician’s duties than a cop’s, you can’t argue that the taking of life was intentional.
Shooting someone with a gun is killing them on purpose. Choking them is killing them on purpose. Dying on an operating table means someone was trying to save your life, which also means you likely would have died without intervention.
I’m not advocating for police to be murdered in their vehicles, but I’m sure at some point you are told, as a police officer: “hey, with this job comes the prospect of someone shooting you in your car for no reason other than your uniform. You still wanna do this?”
People say, “Yes, sign me up!” I think that’s foolish. They don’t deserve it, but something must be done to break the cycle and I think restructuring police forces is a good start.

It should be clear to everyone that the cycle must be broken. I am not saying that police behavior and training is THE problem. But it is part of the problem and the police report to us, the people (at least in theory). So we should demand that they become a major part of the solution.
