I'd say the word "political" in the job title is more than "pure speculation". I'd prefer a scientist that didn't deal with political news stories all day, but that's fine if you want them.
You are using the red herring fallacy. This issue has nothing to do with if I get good sleep or not. It also doesn't have to do with "feel a different level of treatment". I want facts, not feelings. This shows your bias and motivations in this debate.
https://www.pnas.org/content/117/3/1264"Knox and Mummolo (2) are incorrect in their criticism that we did not 'consider how many minority or White civilians are encountered [by police]' or that 'The original paper infers no evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparity simply because more fatally shot civilians are White.' Similarly, Schimmack and Carlsson (4) are incorrect in their criticism that our results 'do not control for the fact that we would expect a higher number of White victims simply because the majority of US citizens are White.-"
Your "counter study" is flawed.
You choose your scientists, and I'll choose my scientists. We agree to disagree.
I do appreciate that you admit you were wrong in your original attempt at showing "injustice". The statistics are better left to the professionals.

Makes you wonder why armed black suspects are 3.5 times more likely to die at the hands of law enforcement than armed white suspects.
"'Adjusted for the homicide rate, whites are 1.7 times more likely than blacks die at the hands of police,' he said. 'Adjusted for the racial disparity at which police are feloniously killed, whites are 1.3 times more likely than blacks to die at the hands of police.'"
You've lost the debate, Jeff.
Math is magic! If you choose the right denominator, you can get any number you want!
Pretty ironic considering the reason Derek Chauvin was still employed by the MPD is because of Jacob Frey's and Betsy Hodges cutting of the police budget. They can't afford to fire anyone because it's so hard to hire anyone to work for the Minneapolis police department. I live in Minneapolis and have only had experiences with cops who wish they were working elsewhere, unfortunately.
Except in Minneapolis the police department isn't doing routine traffic offense enforcement. There's simply too many drivers, too many traffic violations, not enough cops, and way more important things for the cops to worry about than enforcing people driving without insurance, blowing through stop signs, etc. Signs of the police department being underfunded and understaffed.
Predictably, the most pertinent question asked in this thread, has gone unanswered...

It is interesting that Minnesota and Minneapolis have been administered by liberal progressive Democrats for decades. You would think someone would ask how liberalism and progressive policies have allowed this to happen?
The culture of policing needs to be changed. A few easy steps to start:
Change the uniforms. Make them less militaristic and tacticool. Lighten the colors, make them more like a suit, and add a tie like days of old. Today's cop looks like he is going to battle for some reason and doesn't need a vest bristling with assorted weaponry and 18 cargo pant pockets and loops to write speeding tickets.
Regular testing for PEDs. A lot of these dudes are juicing.
College degrees should be required going forward. No more hiring meatheads, former enlisted military, or the local sheriff's kid. Many big city departments are requiring college. This makes for smarter cops with thinking skills and a more worldly mindset.
Start making urban cops walk beats again. Back in the day, this is how you got to know the neighborhood, build trust, and gather intel with the locals. Today's cop sits in his SUV or cruiser surfing the Internet and getting amped up on caffeine waiting for something to go down. You can have car based response teams for big calls but, get back to real neighborhood policing.
Get rid of internal affairs. When a cop does wrong, it goes to the state AG or federal DOJ for investigation and prosecution. No more wrist slaps from friendly local DAs or in house investigation that finds no fault based on technicalities and procedural quirks.
Arm the average cop with handguns and tasers only. Call SWAT or a tactical response team if you require more firepower. You would be astounded at how much weaponry is carried in the average cruiser.
Establish duty rotations that include both field work and desk work. Street cops probably could benefit from less stressful office shifts and older veteran cops should see some street time to have a better feel for what is happening outside of the precinct. This should include senior leaders like captains and chiefs.
I can only hope that question was posed sarcastically.

Ummm, like the light blue shirt the MPD wears? How'd that work out?
Sure, those are great suggestions—but would never fly with the union, as they endanger officers. Think about why and how some of them have been abolished.
Their primary goal is to protect themselves; next, government; next, paying businesses and institutions; and last, citizens.

Horse ****. When did the saying become "just a few bad apples?" I could have sworn the saying was "One bad apple spoils the barrel" When did our collective standards fall so much?
and by the way, if we want to extend this apple metaphor out...imagine finding rotten apples on top of the pile in every bin at the market...that kill people or make people sick.
You'd say something's wrong /w our apple picking system...there's a lot of bad apples..maybe its the orchard, the pickers, the market...IDK but something's wrong. Its systemic.
You realize cops don’t actually stop murders from being committed and they have like a 20 percent conviction rate for all murders.
I think there is a long stretch from a few members proposing it to it actually happening.
If you want to see your tax base erode then send a message that the police will be unarmed and more community oriented. The criminals are going to have a field day. But if the city wants to do that, it is in their power. Considering the rate of violent crimes, it would be an interesting move.
This site says it is safer than 4% of US cities (meaning it is less safe than 96%) and has 2x the national average for murder, robbery, rape and property damage.

Honestly I had no idea. Sheesh...
Defund. Eradicate! Liberate!

From an article I read, it would be a radical change especially going to unarmed officers.
That's a police reorganization plan, not an anarchy plan.
Brofessor wrote:
Is this even legal?
I bet they keep the same staff and just rename things.
I would think a city council could do this unless you know something specific in MN law.
It sounds good on paper ot in a tweet, but I am not sure the law abiding citizens of any color will be keen on this. Stats show most crime committed against blacks come from other blacks.
Also, what about all the cops who do a great job? Or even just an okay job?
Minneapolis is 63% white; US is 70%.
Blacks 18% v 13%
Also a very high crime rate...

Really nice, my wife’s an architect. Great amenities too.
Two 1-bedrooms made into a 1-bedroom plus and an independent studio, easy to re-separate if desired.
Let me know. Seriously, I think we will be entertaining offers. I have called a family meeting for tomorrow, we need to figure out what we want to do, and how.
Part of me hopes this can succeed, part of me knows it won’t. We are lucky because I suppose we don’t need to be here, and we have options.
I should have known it was all headed south when they demolished my old track and built a new one that nobody can now use.
Yes that track issue was what led to all this...
Our cops need to dress and be less equipped like the police in the United Kingdom. The UK has done it right; less aggressive & intimidating looking and more about community-policing. ?
