I don't like what happened any more than the rest of you, but let me ask this:
how would you feel if the trail specifically prohibits posting anything - no signs, no announcements, absolutely nothing along its perimeters.
And how would you feel if it turns out that the person with the camera wasn't knocked over but just tripped in trying to flee the guy? What if he never touched the person holding the camera?
And what if before the video started, he had told those people that there is no posting allowed along the trail corridor, and people on both sides of the issues are asked to respect that limitation, and they are too?
Just asking....
You ask "how would you feel" if somebody posted fliers I disagreed with in a place where fliers weren't allowed.
I'll answer: I'd feel angry
Now ask "what would you do about it?"
I'll answer: I'd ask them to stop and post fliers somewhere they're allowed. When they didnt listen, I'd tell them we should all follow the rules to try to guilt them into stopping. Then I'd leave.
You know why I'd leave? Because something that amounts to a citation doesnt deserve to be answered with a misdemeanor or felony assault. That is what I would do, regardless of their age.
This dude put his hands onto them to rip things out of their hands. Maybe he didnt punch anybody in the face, but he did manhandle people to get what he wanted. That's assault.
Maybe it was a momentary indiscretion in a lifetime of positive interactions. If so, I'm sure the judge or prosecutor will take that into account and allow a plea to probation or a symbolic week in jail.
