My understanding of CV work in Tinman's approach would be year round use, but with varying levels of volume and structure in different phases. If one was to break a cycle into beginning, middle, and end I imagine it would look like this
Beginning: Fartlek style CV, effort based and untimed, with shorter reps, lower volume, and longer recoveries than typically prescribed i.e : 8 x 2 mins CV/ 90 seconds off. Of course this would be accompanied by some light speed as well, so maybe tack on 4 x 30 seconds at 3k, 90 seconds easy
Middle: Building towards the longer, more traditional CV workouts. Things like 8 x K @ CV with 1 minute rest. Tinman is a big fan of layering his workouts, so there still may be some other pacework involved with these sessions, but building aerobic conditioning through the CV reps would constitute at least 90% of the focus of the session.
End: Tinman seems to be a bit more secretive about his sharpening sessions, but from what I can gather, CV would be implemented in more of a blended style towards the end. So 8 x K may be reduced to 5-6 x K (for aerobic maintenance reasons), followed or proceeded by 400-800's at Vo2 max. Once again, this is the phase I am least sure of, but I would also assume that these blended CV workouts are run in conjunction with a faster, race specific session in the same week.
