Civil unrest was much worse in the 60's than in 2020...
It was much more volatile and violent.
Over 300 Americans were killed every week in Vietnam.
College students were being shot at by military police.
Blacks were being denied rights and were being lynched by racists for speaking out.
Key political figures were being assassinated.
Cities were being burned by rioters.
We're not seeing that today.
Other than the tragic recent death of a black man by a racist police officer and pockets of protesters (more due to pent up frustration), things are pretty good in 2020.
Before CV, the economy was booming.
We're not at war.
Blacks have every opportunity to be whatever they want to be.
Is life perfect in 2020? No, but a helluva lot better than the 60s.
In terms of presidential legacies, Johnson was a fair worse president than either Nixon or Trump.
Johnson orchestrated JFK's assassination, whom he despised.
He escalated our involvement in Vietnam and sent thousands of young men to die.
He couldn't control domestic civil rights activists and war protesters and deployed military force to do so.
He declined renomination in 1968 due to his huge unpopularity. He retired to his Texas ranch and died from a heart attack at age 64.
Nixon was opposed to the war from the outset from the start of his presidency in 1969 and deescalated our involvement ending it completely in 1973.
Nixon abolished the draft. He promoted social reform and desegregation.
Nixon initiated and improved foreign relations with China, Russia, and the Middle East.
He was a great diplomat who fell on his own sword.
As Leonard Skynard sang, Watergate don't bother me at all, does your conscience bother you?
Trump may be a narcissist and a bad diplomat, but domestically everything has improved during his term.
Plus he's no murderer like Johnson was.
And that's all I'm going to say about that.
