I’m a 6’4” 185lb male. I’m lean and trim and don’t have much weight to lose. I’m wondering about heat dissipation, energy requirements, etc. I am 40 years old and recently ran a 1:44 half (7:58 min/mile pace) on 20 miles a week training. I would need to get down to 3 hr 10 min (7:14 min/mile pace for the full). My mile time now is 6:14 min at the track. I can only hold the 7:14 pace for three miles right now before I burn up. I’ve never even gotten close to sustaining the speed necessary to qualify. I saw a graph of height and weight for Boston qualifiers and I would be an extreme outlier for height and weight. Average is about 5’8” 157lb for Boston qualifier male.
Is it even possible for me to qualify for Boston? Should I just stick to basketball, volleyball and rowing and let the smaller men do gymnastics, soccer and distance running? I really want to qualify for Boston but I want to know if anyone with my size has done it. If it is possible, what will it take?
