Just curious.
Just curious.
People didn't give in to fearmongering back then
Irish, Italians, Greeks, Brits just got here from savage, backwards Europe. They where dirt poor, didn't wipe after #2, didn't bathe, starving, with no money. Who the hell ran the BM?
People are idiots. It was modified in 1918. It was run as a military relay race. How do you compare a race with 30000 runners and millions of spectators ? The Boston marathon was a small race for its first 50+ years. In 1989 it had less than 7000 entrants
Much smaller race, few people traveling to run, and fewer spectators.
The internet and iPhones didn’t exist.

So the marathon was actually not held that year. (I've always thought that their clamin to be a continuously held race was not quite accurate (though 1919-2019 is pretty good!) Interesting that they blame that on the war and not the flu.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
