App State played one ACC team and one SEC team in 2019
They beat South Carolina 20-15
They beat UNC 34-31
That's 2-0, by my count.
Cool. And they also only have a bit over 100 players on their team and not 150. Maybe they should cut even more teams. They do have 6 quarterbacks though. Guess some guys just really love practice.
The issue with Appalachian State, and many other mid-majors, is not the football team. It is the fact that they are in a conference in which you have to fly all over the country to play games that aren't even televised and making money. The Sun Belt goes from Myrtle Beach, SC to San Marcos, TX. That is completely ridiculous. Why does a baseball, softball, tennis, soccer, track or swimming team need to charter a flight from NC to TX to participate in a conference competition. At least when App's football team went and played Louisiana Lafayette it was televised and they got payed.
East Carolina just had to cut swimming and diving because of budget cuts. Why is ECU and App State not in the same conference? They are similar sized schools and combined travel alone from all sports from Greenville to Boone would save you tens of thousands of dollars.
