Wonderful.
I order to you stop being an idiot. Take off that stupid mask, and get out of your basement.

If people feel covid is a greater risk to their individual health than joblessness, they can choose extreme isolation.
If people feel like joblessness is a greater risk to their health than covid, they have the right to work.
At the very least, for private businesses and individuals, it should be up to individuals to perform their own individual risk assessments.
I would love to know the counter argument (and no, grocery store doesn't count, as the free market has ensured a plethora of ways to get contact free goods).
I see. So, while that certainly was flippant, how does your order fit the clause of "that were meant to keep us safe," exactly?
Stupid ideas. wrote:

Individuals take that risk every day they go out. They know who they are staying safe for, be it themselves, family, extended family, etc.
Businesses, unless they work hand in hand with OSHA (Simply having MSDS sheets doesn't count), medical personnel or their state or county health department, don't have the proper means to prevent their business from contributing to the pandemic.
Why do you think schools closed?
Social distancing was not possible and it takes far too many faculty and staff members to run a school. Couple that with the closeness of children to each other and you have a ticking time bomb of virus spread.
Bars, gyms, churches, restaurant dining rooms, etc have the same issue. If Covid-19 is a respiratory illness with other complications, then the main goal is to stop or minimize people BREATHING on or by each other.
Few businesses could guarantee that.
Hence orders were given.
Because foreign state entities are stoking the misinformation and encouraging protests. And there will always be idiots susceptible to being stoked. This coupled with the Fox News feedback loop just makes for a depressing situation.

im not sure why this is the default rule. we know individuals and businesses have not been good, historically, at making decisions when an externality is involved. and we know an externality is involved here. so this seems like kind of a non starter without substantially more justification.
but even were we to accept the premise that the individuals know best, we know that very few individuals in a capitalist society have much short term freedom to make the kind of unconstrained decision youre talking about. im not knocking capitalism, im just noting that the wage employee often doesnt have much choice (and has not often had the choice even in this pandemic - - see all the stories of companies laying off workers who choose to stay home). so its not clear that we'd actually be leaving the decision "to the individual" at all. i recognize that many, many employees have expressed a sentiment that they want to get back to work--im just saying there appears to be more to the individual freedom picture than anybody wants to let on in this conversation.

Public health should not be based on private businesses and individuals perform their own individual risk assessments. Because they are not able to do that. Most of them are not virus experts. They assess something they don't understand.
But hey, this is a free country and everybody has the right to do stupid things and drag down a whole nation.

You shouldn’t just blindly follow your government. Hasn’t worked well through out history.
Wow. The people blindly wandering through this pandemic are those like energeticlutus and others here who refuse to get educated about the impact of the virus. We are about to pass 100,000 deaths due to COVID over a couple of months, with no sign of it stopping. If you are persisting in the idea that the only people dying somehow brought it on themselves, and that adhering to common sense health regulations is "blindly following," then you are truly living in a dark place.
This kind of drivel about American individualism is ignorantly myopic at best and dangerously irresponsible when spewed about message boards like this one.
But I can still decifer life better than you. I have one job and am doing very well. Sorry that you have made some bad mistakes and choices. Try again
"I do my clothes at the laundry mat." Stay home idiot and quit exposing the vulnerable who go there. Selfish prick.
Lots of differences of opinions here and no one is going to change anyone's mind on this.
My thoughts are that eventually the people will decide when quarantine ends either through disobedience or at the ballot box. America has always valued individual liberty over everything else. We have been to war over it many times. For better or worse that is never going to change.
Because of this mindset I happen to think most Americans that are at high risk have the common sense to protect themselves accordingly. This is the 21st century. You can stay inside all day if you want (although I think vitamin d is important especially in high risk populations). High risk Americans also should have the freedom like everyone else to go out and enjoy life with a slightly higher risk than last year.
I am personally benefiting immensely from this with my company doing great and I no longer have to commute to work and get to see my daughters all day now. Plus I got free money from the government. But many are suffering. Surely a multidisciplinary team should be reviewing the strategy going forward and not just doctors.
How many doctors do you know that tell you your knees hurt because you run too much?
You didn't read. But I should expect that someone who sees laundromat correctly written and reads it as "laundry mat" as you, yourself likely say it, would not read thoroughly. By going at 4 am with mask, gloves and hand sanitizer, I am making sure I am either by myself or maybe with one other person there. In a laundromat with over 30 washers and 40 dryers, the social distancing is plenty. If i feared there'd be too many people, I'd wait in the car during washing and drying.
I know. Difficult to comprehend, right?
No. No.
Aching knees won't potentially kill you.
Not the same.
Oh in that case, you are a hero. Keep up the great work. Our country needs you to stay on course.
Our country needs people to be practical, not rebels.
Our country was founded on rebels and it sets us apart. How are rebels fairing in China, Russia, Cuba, Vietnam to name a few?

Are you paying attention. It has been all over the news that numbers are dropping, even in the hotbeds of NY and NJ, and overall as a country. I am not sure why you have not been paying attention.
Apparently Education is Lacking and so is your attention to what is happening in the world.
Sure. And when are the rebels going to grow up and learn to listen to established rules at some point? Challenging the man must seem fun. But at some point, rules are good. The rebels that created this nation had a cause. Many modern day rebels don't have a true honorable cause and insist on causing hell. It's immature.

Numbers were dropping. But.... 57 new deaths in Georgia 91 people infected in a Missouri salon The stories are coming through about many infected in a church, an exercise class in South Korea (a country who had minimized damage), etc. Worldwide, like in the US, opening the country is showing the U effect on the curve. Numbers were down because of orders and social distancing and masks, etc. I'm not sure that you're aware of what's happening, Coach.

Well put. A lot of pansies exist on LR and would be the ideal citizens in George Orwell's 1984. Cowards.
