^this^ just run your time trial, keep the results to yourself, and then show up for the race when it happens. We now have a bunch of primadonna time trialers, that think you dont actually ever need to race, you just need a camera and a van just like uncle Rico.
I remember one summer, a coach posted time trial result for a mile for his team, one of the times posted was significantly faster than the time that won the 1600m at the state meet and would have been one of the fastest all time in the state. "OH NO our team is going to be crushed...." is unfortunately what everybody on our team was thinking, however fall XC comes around and our team is up against them we put two in front there top runner. Neither had a time credential anywheres close.
There are literally hundreds of millions of actual race results to look at and hundred of thousands of actual races to compete in we dont need to be glorifying any of these time trials. I get were bored due to COVID but come on people.
