UTEP, and it's not even close!
Bairu was also 13th at world cross which is by far his best ever performance!
You should do a 10 ten all-time XC team ranking. Here is my top 5 of the top of my head:
UTEP 1981
Colorado 2004
Wisco 2004
Oregon 2008
Sanford 2003
You can't put CU 04' ahead of Wisco 04'. That was a huge blow up at the end of that race for Wisco and a huge upset. No one going in thought Wisconsin had a chance of losing.

Gault lacks the intelligence and the historical perspective to adequately comment on these races. Plus they are boring as heck.

Get a new writer? You don't want me to do "I Was Bored, So I Watched the 1985 New York Marathon" do you? I can assure it, it won't be a boring story. ;-)
U of O in late 70s or early 80s:
Salazar
Chapa
Ken Martin
McChesney
Don Clary
...someone confirm if they were all on the team at the same time?
Amen.

How can you suggest a lineup that you're not sure of a year or who was on the team?
UTEP - They spoke 6 different languages on the team. What they lacked in communication skills they made up with speed.
But they did. I would say the opposite. You can't put wisco ahead of CU, CU beat them. You can't really argue with that.
We are talking most talented teams. As far as talent goes, that Wisco team hands down.
These throwback pieces are okay. I'm just surprised that he asked readers if they've ever seen the kind of undergarment that Rupp wears in the race and then mistakes bare-shouldered, necklace-wearing Wheating for Rupp in the Withrow handshake pic. Makes a better story imagining it's Rupp but it's obviously not.

I would read that
I think Bruce Nelson was also on that team. If I remember correctly, Art Boileau, didn't make the team that year and he went on to be a two time Canadian Olympian in the marathon.

Dude went to Dartmouth and has a masters in journalism from one of the best journalism schools out there (Syracuse). Can you please give us a list of what schools we should only hire from? Or would you prefer we hadn all job applicants an IQ test. What should we limit it to?
What's your IQ? and credentials? I'll pay you $100 to write one for next week so we can see if you can do better. Please email me robert@letsrun. om

And I'd expect far more made of yesterday's Jakob national record 5K. I guess we'll revisit that during Pandemic 2047.
Why in the world should I devote any time to a guy with a 13 flat PR running 13:28?
Sure, but who cares if they didn't win.
Nope, not even close. The late '70s UTEP team that scored 17 at NCAAs FTW.

My bad, '81. Though their team another year ('79?) was certainly better than the Oregon team the OP is stretching to gloss.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
