"Let's don't overcomplicate this"????
What kind of English is that?

I'd say if you use 7 paragraphs to justify your point, then you overcomplicated it.
Simplest way to run the Boston Marathon? Hold the race. If a person feels safe, then show up and run the race. If the person doesn't, then don't show up. Done.
Agree.

His logic is constantly flawed and he seems to miss basic points. First few can just take 2 weeks to quarantine prior to a race. Secondly, Between the test and the race you can get covid.
Anyone who' run a big city marathon knows they can be very packed the first couple of miles.
Then you have to address all these people using service in a given location and then going back to their homes.
People are not reading. I said "Test them before travel to the city."
And what I didn't say but was obviously left unsaid was you'd have tons of waves. As the one poster said, start 30 people every minute or something.
I imagine the percentage of people training for a marathon that have Cov id-19 is way less than the average population.
So first of all, as some have pointed out, you can't have international runners. Maybe, MAYBE, a few elites. But preferably, none.
Second, you don't even want people spreading it around the country, bringing it back to their rural homes with little or no spread. So, perhaps every should be required to show a negative test done within 3 days of a planned flight to travel to NY. OR, they could only allow people within say 300 miles (an easy day's drive) of the city to participate. You're going to want to reduce numbers from 10s of thousands to thousands - maybe a 1000 person race, maybe a 5000 person race at most, so restricting by geography is a good place to start.
I would even argue that THIS YEAR, only residents of New York City can participate. That way, no one is traveling anywhere.
So, in summary:
1.) Only NYC residents can participate in 2020
2.) Cap participation at no more than 5000, probably 1500
3.) Everyone must where MEDICAL masks until the gun goes off. Heck, maybe during the race.
4.) Everyone must show a negative test conducted within 5 days of the race start.
People scoffing at this idea need to understand that Covid is going to be around for a while. I read recently that the flu vaccine, which they've been working on for decades, only reduces the death count by 10%. It's likely that even if they manage to come up with a vaccine in the next 18 months, it will not be anywhere near 100% effective. It will slow spread and reduce death count, but it likely won't be like the measles vaccine. It could be many years before holding an event like a big city marathon the way it used to be done is practical.
"Let's don't overcomplicate this....."
Ahhhhh my ears are bleeding when I read that out loud!
How about "Let's not***overcomplicate this.."

If you test them before they travel to the city, you create the very likely possibility of catching it on the plane.
You can't be so ignorant as to not know that most covid cases are asymptomatic.
You are blindingly dumb.
It just occurred to me that everyone is looking at this completely wrong. We shouldn't be only allowing people to participate that test negative, it should only be those that test positive!
Just as Boston has a qualifying window for times, there should be a window for testing positive. An ideal qualifying window would be until July 1st so you could have contracted the virus, recovered and had time to train for the race. If you contracted the virus and die or have permanent lung damage then you are not a real runner and have no business competing in a marathon to begin with.
NYRR could set up a virtual "inoculation 5K race" and encourage those who are currently positive on race day to participate along side those hoping to participate in the marathon this year to facilitate a mass infection. There should be shared water bottles where you must each drink from the same bottle. With any luck everyone who participates could become infected and secure their spot in the marathon this year!
As you can see, this is the only real solution to this problem. Rojo, feel free to use this idea as your own, it is essentially an extension of your original idea!
/s
As some states are re opening, does anyone know of any races that have taken place in the last two week? How did it go? How different was it from a normal race? Has anyone put on a small 5k recently for example?

Really, the OP explains why LRC is so full of trolling and nonsense, when a supposedly Ivy league graduate, former runner, owner of the website posts any rubbish that gets in his head without actually thinking or researching how things work.

YES!
Just voluntarily infect everyone a month before the race. Everyone will be immune and they'll be no issues.
Whos testing the Kenyans? Their own sports council?

It’s getting to be pretty obvious that you intentionally put grammatical errors and typos in your posts. I’m assuming because you think it will generate more responses which it probably does considering that I’m responding . Either way it’s pathetic. Focus on the quality of your posts and not the cheap gimmicks.
Have you heard him speak on the podcast? Amazing he has an Ivy League degree.

He suggested charging people with attempted murder who may test positive. Meanwhile he needs more info on the McMichaels case in GA.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
