Touhy ran 15:37 as a sophomore but never improved after that --at least in hs. Girls tend to peak earlier than guys so class year is less of an issue--anyone remember Grace Ping?

Great performance but history tells us that it's not wise to make any long-term projections about girls who run fast in high school.

The early peak is only true for elite high school girls. Most of the top American elite female distance runners today were not dominating national headlines in high school. Like Elle Purrier.
What matters most ultimately is how they do when they're pros or competing for money. Few of today's most elite high school female runners will be pro runners with longevity. If they don't get a contract in high school, chances are good they never will as most fall off of their elite times in college.
A time trial is PRACTICE, not a meet, not a race PRACTICE!
That was not a time trial, pretty much a races. She was pulled along by a male pacer.
The fact the LR did an article on this treating this like it is an actual race result is hilarious. Ok guys.
Kind of reminds me of the alleged #2 all time 5k that turned out to be on a short track, that got speed rated at 155 and that was followed by a 23rd place performance at NXN. (Yes, yes there was injury but that is not uncommon late in the year).
Brown is a good runner. She got third at the Brook's PR invite behind Hart and VanderLande. Maybe great things are in store. Maybe not. But less "work outs", more actual results.

A time is a time. That’s the most pure aspect about the sport of track and field
Brown fell early on at NXN (about 1:55 into the race) and got trampled. Similar to Kate Murphy during her senior year. I highly doubt she would've finished outside the top 15 if she managed to stay on her feet the whole time.

That was incredibly impressive, shattering the all-time US HS record in a time trial, on video, in a season with no actual races.

Cain's 9:38 2-mile is better. Does it not count for the split?
Her 4:04 is a world away from any of these performances.
Right. And Jupiter aligned with Mars.
A time is a time if it is set in a real race at an official, verified distance while officially clocked under actual race conditions. Overlooking the fact that none of those elements existed, sure.

Yes, it wasn't official FAT, but at worst it was 9:40 +/-. I put that 7 seconds better than 9:47.....just sayin'. Brown looks to be the real deal to me. Man, this loss of a track season hurts. Elsewhere, in other time trials, we've seen (So.) Riley Stewart clock a 4:47 1600, and (Fr.) Lauren Ping clock a 4:48 full mile. Other up-and-coming runners are posting some promising times too.
Someone is getting tons of college letters in their mail...

Juniors are the ones hurting the most from missing this track season. Their college recruitment mostly depends on what they do in track as a junior. Smart of her to stay focused and post a legit time trial for that reason alone.
Calm down

No, Tuohy still holds the 3200 meter record at 9:47. But true, Brynn Brown didn't just run in a low-key time trial the single best performance of any high school girl ever at any distance.
I'll stick with my assessment that it was incredibly impressive. She is not worlds away from any high school girl ever. She is poised to break HS and junior records if there are any meets next season, IMO.
She fell because she was already on the limit trying to keep up with the other runners.
