I would Venmo anyone $5 for a decent quality stream of the race. I refuse to help Milesplit profit off of an illegal, student organized event that they have no business being a part of.

To answer a lot of questions: It's happening at Oak Ridge hs.
I live about 20 minutes ORHS. What time are they running?
I live 5 minutes away, see you there. It seems to be 8:15 is the planned start time.
And in response to meloveulongtime. They won't need to turn on the lights, it's still quite light here at 8:15PM.
Huh? You will pay someone $5 to illegally profit off of a bunch of kids and undercut a legitimate business? It is that type of attitude that will finally kill track and field. Why can't you crybabies be real track fans?
I’m friends with one of the kids on Corner Canyon’s team. They are running at Sacramento State. Also, that’s where cole’s Strava is.

Clearly they are contagious.
If they're not alive, how could they possibly be contagious???
Regarding the race, the video that I posted recently demonstrated that covid19 is not contagious.
So you’re an expert in virology? What link?
Just looked at the field on MS’s homepage. If the PRs they list are correct then none of these kids are very close to sub-4. I may be a little ignorant about HS track this year. Is there a favorite or perhaps some other performances indicating sub-4 potential? I’m not against spending some money to join milesplit but as there are very few races going on right now is it worth it for this one?
Well, you've got Sprout and Daschbach that aren't too far off. I concede that the other guys seem like longshots though.

His PR was 3:54 and his smoggy was not during a workout.
It was smoke and he shouldn't have raced. The farmers were burning the fields around Eugene and the air was saturated with smoke, which notably affected him physically. He said afterward that he shouldn't have raced but he didn't want to disappoint the crowd that was there to see him.
He had run a 4:08/4:02 workout a few days days before that mile, which was impressive at the time. After the mile run he coughed so hard he damaged rib cartlidge or something and screwed up his return trip to Europe and DNFed in a 2-mile against Brendan Foster. That was when Foster was putting in hard surges in the middle of races, so Pre lost his one chance to sit on someone else's fast pace.
You got this one wrong, bud. Milesplit is the one doing the illegal profiting here. This event is a clear violation of California's social distancing protocols. When it's just a group of kids doing it for the love of the sport, I think that's fine. But there is simply no reason for Milesplit to be involved in this other than to try and salvage some revenue out of this cancelled spring season. Milesplit is attempting to profit off of an event that they know to be illegal. That doesn't sound like a "legitimate business" to me. I would feel much better supporting a high school track fan who's there for the love of running rather than a corporation who's only goal in being there is to make a profit.
I am no fan of flosports, but if we want track and field to be a legitimate sport then I think we should stop expecting charity to be the funding model.
The folks from flosports that will be there are doing a job and should be paid. There will be expenses in doing so. They are taking a risk that the incremental subscription revenue will be enough to offset their costs that quite possibly includes some sort of payment to those involved in the event.
I think this could certainly have been handled via vlog on youtube, but have no trouble with it being handled this way either.
sadly there is no money in track anyway
the viewers will be the 50 guys here on LR, parents and friends, and a few high school track runners
If this gives milesplit some content and offsets some travel costs for kids and coaches during a terrible time, then all good.
The kids and coaches just want a chance to be in a fast race to make at least something out of this season. I wish them well and am pretty sure they could not care if the end result is deemed official, it will count for them and that is enough.

This isn't professional track, this is an informal time trial involving high schoolers. If anything should be freely available, it's this event.
People are on here all the time whining about having to pay to watch any track. And whining about having to pay to run in a road race. For an alt right den of iniquity that is this forum, capitalism seems to be a confusing concept
The point stands.
Just sleazy capitalism. Milesplit has nothing to do with this. They are just buying other people's talent and reselling it. They add nothing. No one wants to pay for their crappy commentary, so now they are trying to own the running events and hold them hostage.

It's about 30 minutes away from where I live and I'm excited to go watch it. I don't give a crap about Milesplit or hostages. Would you be happier if there was no race?

Milesplit and Flotrack are the kings of everything track and cross country. Flotrack streams every major college and professional track meet and cross country meet in the US. Many of you have admitted to not subscribing which means that you are not watching but somehow think you are educated enough to come to this site and comment on the people and the races. A few of you have also commented that you don't know the kids in this mile race even though 5 of them are among the top runners in the country.
I am grateful that Milesplit is streaming this meet. They do no need to. While I am enjoying seeing a few of the only kids in history break 4 minutes, many of you complainers will be on this site arguing about Covid 19. The non-Milesplit crowd goes home devastated.
I've seen several of them run in person. I am not going to reinforce this behavior. Anyone should be able to watch an unofficial race like this. Milesplit is money grubbing, and if you want to support them and help make that worse then so be it. I can live without seeing the race. Enjoy!

I never said I would be happy if there was no race. I am glad it's happening, even if I don't get to watch it. I just think Milesplit sucks. Have fun. It should be awesome.

Thanks. I didn't go through the whole thread, but Allred's PRs don't indicate he's capable of 4:00. Is there something I don't know?
Hadn’t thought of this being an illegal activity. But it almost certainly is in California right? Companies shouldn’t charge to do that.
But I was more concerned with an underground event being pay-per-view. At the very least the coaches putting this on should be getting paid . But I’d much rather prefer some fan to just stream it on his phone for free

I completely agree with you. If the money went to people who actually did something to make this possible, it would be different, but Milesplit adds nothing. They just block people from watching, so they make a negative contribution. They took something that could have been inspiring to a large community of people during an incredibly tough time, and they made it just one more example of greed and manipulation. That is disappointing to me.

If Kilian Journet is a 4:10 miler with no PRs at all, then Allred can do this.
