I feel like the pacer should have dropped out because he was bothering the field after the 800m mark

A real shame that they could run, even with pacers, yet nobody else in the country gets a chance to shine as a senior.

Everyone can start a meet like this as they please.
Exactly. Any other high school runners could have arranged a competition as they pleased.
It would have been pretty awesome if the senior girls had done this. Touhy, Starliper, Ewert, Hart, Dudek, Starcher, and any others I am missing lining up for one last high school mile.
I think it was correct, the first lane start was where it belonged
Race was exciting, single file line from the gun. Perfect through 1/4, but slowed up to 2:01 I believe as the pacers were a little off, and second pacer had trouble keeping it going to 1000 as planned. Sprout was chomping at the bit the entire time, so when the second pacer stepped off as he was slowing even more, he picked it up to rebound for 3:02 at 3/4. From there they stepped it up a little but as soon as Daschbach heard he needed a 58 he got to work and gave it everything he had with about 250 to go. He looked like he might slow coming into the straightaway but it looked like the clock gave him some motivation and he threw the afterburners on, gritted his teeth, and crossed the line at 3:59.54.
Huge night for this kid, and has to feel incredible at a time like this. Night looked perfect, pacers weren't perfect but got the job done, but ultimately it was probably knowing how monumental the moment was that got him moving with 400 to go. Before yukking his dinner he just sat on the track in disbelief (and probably nausea).
Actually lotta people saying it was Boydan so we'll X Sprout and insert Boydan up there.

Pacing was garbage. 2:02 cost everyone a shot except Leo
That was correct. On the one turn stagger, they started just inside the triangles that would be the beginning of the exchange zone in the 4x400.

Is the Oak Ridge track 440 yards?
It looked like they started at the line for a one turn stagger.
They started the ~9m behind the typical 1 turn stagger mark, as can be seen from the start lines being on the start of the 4x400m exchange arrows.
It really came back to bite them. What a shame.
The commentator pronounced Allred’s name wrong so many times...he pronounced it “Alldred”
Splits for everyone

No chance any of them would have broken 4:00.
The 2:02.15 "half" was 809m.
Excellent! HS running (and running in general) needed this.
I haven't stayed in the loop on the HS mile scene for awhile. How many HS-only races have produced sub-4s?
And did they get the necessary done to make this do count as an official meet so this can go on the official all-time list?
That’s what I thought the second pacer never dropped out and he got in Allred’s way so he had to swing out wide on going into the last lap.
^ work
That was their intent with the cones, # of finishers, FAT timing
How was this allowed on school property during California shelter in place? Seems odd.
