De-lurking to post my last week because I'd like some advice.
F, 30. Slightly heavier than I'd like because I'm a climber and can do between 5 - 10 pull ups...
PBs (because I'm British): 5:57 (TT); 20:42; 43:20; 1:35:57
Aims: sub-20 5K.
I'm a bit worried that I'll never get there though, my PB is almost the same as 2018 when I'd only been running for a year on less than 30 miles per week... (my half and 10K times have come down though..)
Had been training for my first marathon for April - going for 3:25 - 3:30, hitting 50-60 mpw. Really wanted that London GFA but I guess maybe next year. I did a 20 mile race (with no taper) @ 7:45 min/mile once the marathon had been cancelled so I think my goal was within reach.
M: 10 miles @ 8:19 min/mile (separated into two, as got a key cut)
T: 9 miles inc 5 x 5 mins @ ~ 6:40 min/mile with 1 min walking in-between
W: AM 7 miles walking; PM 3 miles @ 9:21 min/mile
T: 10 miles inc 7 @ 7:40 min/mile
F: AM 8 miles @ 9:50 min/mile including 1 @ 7:15 min/mile (was pacing a friend's mile effort); PM 3 @ 8:13 min/mile
S: 6 @ 9:15 min inc 10 x 45 secs hill efforts
Su: 14 @ 8:26 min/mile (8:51 min/mile --> 8:08 min/mile)
Total: 63 miles & 7 walking
Highest weekly mileage :). Feeling pretty positive! I'm enjoying running at the minute. Trying to include more hills this week (I live on a promenade so there's a lot of flat running).
A lot of the girls I know who run similar times (21 ish min 5K, though I hope to go sub-20 soon!) seem to run a) a lot lower mileage and b) at much faster paces (like sub 8s, low 7s!!). I don't understand how - my first mile is always my slowest and I usually over or just at 9 min/mile pace. Do they just kill themselves on every run? Or do I run too slowly? From reading this thread intently I don't think I do, I think maybe too fast on occasion (don't look at my watch on easy days though).
Comments from next week apart from:
runrincerepeat : I love the rebels :) but I got quite a nasty blister on my arch from them in my 7 mile tempo run, I guess my form got a bit sloppy? Definitely like them for 10 K and below. I've been running in Adidas Boston 7.
highhoppingworm - I've been looking at FuelCell TC - might get them next month based on your recommendation.
