Yep, burned out. Leo set the all time 3 mile xc hs record running 13:38, breaking Nico's record. Lex close behind. As juniors.

I dont get why people on these board love putting teenagers down so much. Its honestly sad. To answer the original question though, no the havent burned out. They both just commited to Stanford and are 4 months out from breaking the Glendover and Woodward park course records this xc season and 9 months out from breaking the national 5k and 3200m records on the track.

He'd be about the first to go to Mike Smith at NAU and altitude and not improve. Odds are he'll be running 13:20s next year and 13:10s at least while at NAU.

You need a new odds maker . NAU has had 2 guys in history go sub 13:20 so the odds are not in favor of Young doing it.

You are correct, but the odds of any collegiate running sub 13:20 are not likely...no matter the coach or program. How many American's have ever ran under 13:20 while in college? Vaughn, Rupp, Jenkins, Derrick, Chapa, Day? Am I missing anyone?
If Nico stays healthy and hungry he'll have a chance, but it's more likely he goes on and has a great NCAA career, but without cracking 13:20.
-----------
Nice to be reminded of all this. Nico Young, who just turned 20 a few days ago, ran 13:24 in 2021 as a freshman and at 19 ran 13:11/3:37.75. NAU now has had at least five guys run under 13:17, Estrada (13:15.33), Day (13:16.95), Grijalva (13:13.14 at NCAA's in 2021), Young, and Nur (13:06). Lex and Leo Young have run 4:00/4:01, 7:57/8:39, 13:43.7, and gone 2-3 at xc nationals. While Nico had his senior year upended, between Lex and Leo, one or the other of the brothers has beaten his high school pr's at 800, mile, 5000m, and xc, and nearly his 3k record already as juniors at 17. They aren't yet the Ingebrigtsens by any stretch. But at their age they are all ahead of Filip and Henrik, and the 17 year old performances of the Youngs are comparable to the not quite 17 times of Jakob. Jakob's huge leap at 17 is tough to follow.

Jakob 3:39.92 shortly before 17/3:31.18 at 17/3:30 at 18/3:28.68 at 19
Filip 3:55 at 18, 3:38.76 at 20
Henrik 3:50.63 at 17/3:44.53 at 18/3:38.61 at 19/3:35.43 at 21

Lex Young 7:57.06 around his 17th birthday
Leo Young 7:59.6c from 8:38 2M at 17

Filip 13:11.75 pr at 26 (13:30 at 25)
Henrik 14:19 at 22/13:27 at 24/13:15 at 28 listed as pr
Lex Young 13:43 at 17
Nico Young 13:24 at 18/13:11 at 19
Dang, this may be one of the worst aged posts in history. Nico ended up running 13:20s the next year, and 13:11 after that.
another question is if they will ever beat Nico at NCAAs
Well, it turns out that they were not, in fact, 4 months out from breaking the Glendoveer and Woodward park course records. They weren't 9 months out from breaking the national 3200 record either. However they DID break the 5k record, and their teammate Aaron DID break the Glendoveer course record. So overall, I'd rate my prediction a 1.5/4 (38%, F-)
So: did the twins surpass Nico? Hard to say honestly. Coming off of their junior years it almost seemed like a certainty, but their senior years were much rockier than was expected. Overall, I'd have to say that the Young family had very even high-school careers. Lex might've had the records, perhaps Leo had the speed, and maybe Nico had the best hardware, but overall I think all three of them left their own unique mark on high school running, all part of the legacy of the greatest high-school team this sport has ever seen.
Next thread: 'Did Colin Sahlman's younger brother surpass him?' I'm inclined to say no, but his NXN victory was very impressive.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
