NFLer Ted Ginn Jr tells media he smoked Usain Bolt in HS - Did he actually do this?

It was on a relay.

Recall also that Bolt had a couple years between being the fastest teenager in the world and the fastest man in the world when he was merely really good.

I cant even find any 100m or 200m results for him.

And how do you "beat" another individual runner in a relay who was on a different leg?

Ginny's 13.4 110m is no joke. I have no doubt he had great flat speed to match that hurdle time. But it isnt easy estimating 100m times based on hurdle times or relay times. He could have been Bolt level, or he could have been a half second slower in the 100m. No way to know without an actual result...

And if you cant find the result where he supposedly beat Bolt head to head, then it didnt happen. Any meet they would have run against each other would be online. It's not like they would have competed at a dual meet, it could only be a big international meet.

So Ted Ginn's high school (Glenville OH) won the 2004 Penn Relays Championship of American 4x100. Usain Bolt's high school, William Knibb, was there that year but didn't qualify for the CoA final and finished 7th in the Small School final. The two teams didn't race each other in the prelims. That's the closest I can find for a "win" for Ginn

If Deion got to race Bolt in HS he would say the same thing or twist a story. In a top sprinters Diva world you get to be fast because everyone is first at 30meters.
I'm sure a lot of NFL talents could contend with Bolt mind you at the HS level. After that all the variables, coaching training, lifestyle all separate the talents to world class or just good.

There is no evidence Ginn Jr. competed in a US National meet which would have qualified him to run against Bolt in the first place. No U20, No Youth. Nothing.

Ginn has probably told so many people that he beat Bolt over the years, that he thinks he actually did. He was an elite hurdler, but never in his life has he/or could he ever beat Bolt.

An American football player that has taken way too many hits to the head claiming to be faster than Usain Bolt? I mean is this surprising? Chris Johnson, Tyreek Hill and now Tedd Ginn ?(and probably many more stories and vision of deluded grandeur). I honestly don't know why you spent a minute of your time bothering to fact check this - almost anything I hear out of the mouth of an NFL player regarding how "fast" they are quickly exits my train of thought within say, half a second.

Ginn was on TV this morning and was asked about this again. He claimed it was at the Penn Relays in a relay. So it seems that Jon Gault is correct with the 2004 Penn Relays although apparently they didn't even run in the same race!! LOL. He said something about his relay team being in lane 8 or something like that.

Bolt won World Juniors 200m in Kingston at 15 years old competing against 19 year olds. He regards it as one of his greatest races. He ran sub 20 in the 200m while in high school. And you ask if some football player beat Bolt in high school? Not a chance!

Bolt has won world youth, world junior, and senior level sprint championships. The list of people who have ever beaten bolt is extremely short. This chump ain’t on that list.

Let’s get some perspective here.

This poster is spot-on. Bolt ran 20.61 at age 15 (yes, 15!) to win World Juniors. As a 19-year-old Ginn's fastest 200 was 21.16. If they raced head-to-head Bolt would've smoked Ginn.

This indicates the year before they dropped the baton so he didn't beat Bolt then either.

Sounds like it did not happen but Ted Ginn was in fact a ridiculous track talent. Every NFL receiver is fast but he was special. That said, he takes a little bit of time to unwind--I think he would have been a great 400 meter hurdler. Unfortunately, Ohio ran the 300 meter hurdles in high school, not the 400 meter hurdles. He was state champion in 36.8 or something.

i watched the D1 state championships in 03 or 04 when Ted Ginn won the 110m hurdles. IIRC he gapped the entire field by like 20 feet, wasn't even close.

Ginn was the fastest hurdler I ever saw live. Unbelievable smooth and quick. He was good at the 110s but the 300h were his best event. Definitely could have been a 400h/4x400m guy no problem.

Was Ginn fast enough to be state champ in the 100 meter dash?

here were the results from that meet. Won the 110m, 2nd in 400m, and won the 200m, anchored 4x400m and won. didn't even appear in the 100m or 4x100m
