With winds gusting up to 35 mph Willy and Andrew Mcguire paced their teammates in order for the teammates to qualify for the WIAC conference meet.
Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Wind sucks.

With indoor just over and outdoor about to start who are the favorites.
The mile and the 5k for men were awesome races should make for the good times outdoors.
im gonna say
800 - obrien
1500 - kosgei
steeple - kosgei
5k - kaul
10 - sigl
800 - kosgei
1500 - kosgei
steeple - kosgei
5k - kosgei
10 - kosgei
...if he ran all of them
Anyone know what happened to Nechuta? He was looking pretty good in indoor, looked like if he keeps at it, he'd be at Nationals outdoors, but now he's been MIA.
after o'brien ran 3:47 i was gonna say that he was the most talented kid in DIII, but after seeing just how fit kosgie is, he would own o'brien in any event
Symmonds was phenomenal.
Leer is turning out to be quite the talent.
But Peter Kosgei may have them beat.
This weekend he ran a 8:43, 1:50, and 3:51.
What kind of times do you all think he is capable of?
And what will he run at Nationals?
Im guessing 5k, Steeple, Mile...
Also, Wizowatski? She's been good, but where did that come from?
Yep, Wizowatski ran an amazing time. Her 10K time indicates she was either having an off day when she ran the 16:54 5K, she's really geared toward longer distances (since she pretty much held that 5K pace for 10K), or she had a breakthrough this past weekend.
Zerzan also ran a 37:37 not too long ago--quite a bit down from 39something earlier this season. Makes me wonder if she was injured and now she's coming back. If so, she'll make big leaps, and I see her being a contender possibly--not for first with Wizowatski in there, but definitely top four.
He's said a bunch of times that he hates the 5k because its too long, so I'm expecting him to double in the steeple and 1500. Steeple/1500/800 triple would be pretty solid, and after this past weekend, I think he could pull it off.
Wiszowatski or WISZOWATY did run great and if you watch the video she ran her second 5k faster than her qualifying time for the 5km, so obviously the conditions or something effected her 5km. Also to be noted is that she was injured through cross country and indoor and tried to race off of her fitness. Obviously she has sharpened pretty nicely. Right now I would say she is a favorite for a 10k/5k double...the past 2 years the 10k champ has won the 5k. UNLESS Zerzan has been just chilling in the 10k and is ready to bust out a fast 5k in one of the next two weekends.
Of course Kosgei is good, he is from Kenya! He should be running D1. O'Brien right now is probably a mix between Symmonds and Leer. O'Briens future will be in the 1500. He has great speed at the D3 level (47 in 400), but that won't cut it at the national level, let alone the international level. However he already has more strength and endurance than Symmonds ever had in college. He will be definitely be heard from in the 1500 in the future. Will break 3:40 next year in the 1500 if in competitive race. Will run under 1:48.5 in the 800 this year, not sure if he will be running any more 1500's but could run under 3:44. Basically the next big D3 AMERICAN star.
just because someone is from Kenya doesn't make them an 8:43 steepler...if I remember right Kosgie didn't even really run before he tried it at Hamilton...his pr's from school in Kenya are 2:12 (800) and 4:30's (1500)...maybe the Hamilton coach deserves some props for getting Kosgei to try it out again
also just because someone is fast doesn't mean they should be running D1...with the pr's Kosgei had before he ran at Hamilton no D1 school would have wanted him anyway
"However he already has more strength and endurance than Symmonds ever had in college."
are you kidding me? symmonds ran a 4:04 mile his freshman year and a 1:45 his senior year. yes o'brien is a stud, but he is no where near where symmonds was when he was in college.
perhaps they are refering to being better than symmonds on the XC level? I am not sure what symmonds ran in XC so don't take my word on that.

that would be pretty easy. I think he was in the 60's his senior year.
What happend to Alex Ramon of OXY who finished 3rd in the steeple at a 9:01 last year? I have not seen his name anywhere.

Solid time for Kosgei today in the 800.

I would say O'Brien is the biggest threat to Kosgei in the 1500, seeing as how he has run 3:47.
Gathje won the 10,000 the day before. Hyman ran 8:51.95 to win the steeple by 7 seconds.
At nationals, Gathje won by 7 seconds in 8:43.90. Hyman finished second in 8:50.49 and then came back the next day to win the 5000 going away in 14:22.00. That was his fourth race in four days.
Both were tremendous.
O'brien's 3:47 is impressive. I saw Kosgei run the 3:50 at the Liberty League meet and he was just coasting the whole way. He did just enough to win. I believe he is very capable of running faster. I think he may run only the steeple at nationals.
